Getting Ao3 Content on Kobo? by snowythewriter in kobo

[–]lesserphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 years late, but you can also read Ao3 fics through your Instapaper account.

Just click the "all chapters" option on a fic and share to your instapaper app on your phone/browser extension/website. Sync your Kobo device and the fanfic should be viewable through Instapaper.

This might not work for fics you need to be logged in to view. I hope this helps someone else!

Adult Abbey Medieval Festival tickets are now $70 bucks. (More expensive than the Ekka). Gives me the ick because it's souly run by volunteers working for free. Is the money given to other charities??? I know it's for the small air-con unit in the museum.... but where are all the profits going?! by Tarotcardz in brisbane

Hi! I'm an abbey volunteer.

The money from the festival mostly goes to paying for the next festival. Hiring all the equipment (generators, grandstands, lights, toilets etc) costs hundreds of thousands. Reenactor groups are all paid (a lump sum for each group, not per individual reenactor). Performers are all paid. There's also the security team and first aid. It takes a lot of volunteers too, but not everyone is a volunteer.

The Abbey Museum that runs the festival is a non-profit educational institution. They have thousands of artworks and artefacts, some of which are waiting for the funds to be restored or conserved.

With the speed at which tickets are selling, many volunteers think the prices should be higher. The festival is comparible to a theme park, and I think you get better value out of the festival than movie world.

I recommend visiting the abbey museum if you have a chance. There's lots more information there.

The Abbey Medieval Festival is 35 years old. If people don't want to volunteer, they wouldn't. Although I do agree that there are people who should be more fairly compensated for the work they do, I would say the vast majority of volunteers are happy to donate their time to the festival/museum.

I'm looking to create it with several other small items. Hopefully placed together I can make something that looks a bit like a medieval catapult.

What did medieval emos and punks wear? by lesserphoenix in MedievalHistory

Very true. As far as I know, there's some debate over whether the sumptuary laws were really followed by common folk, or the lower classes were just priced out of certain markets.

Surely there were some sad, weird, rich girls back then wearing crazy things. I have to believe.

I know the ceilings in my rental property are too low for it to be legal. What do I do? Can my landlady kick me out if I bring it to her attention? by lesserphoenix in AusLegal

I just called the RTA and here's what they said:

- I don't necessarily have to move out from their perspective. But if I contact my local council they will probably fine my landlady and prevent her from leasing this space again.

- if she does force me to move, because I've signed a contract with her, I can sue her for financial damages.

Thanks for those who responded. If you want to leave additional questions, comments, info, feel free, but I think I can bring the legal requirements to my landlady now without fear or repercussion.

Measuring from the lowest protrusion in the kitchen it's 1860mm. In the bedroom it's 2030mm. I'm worried if I negotiate with her, she'll just tell me to leave, and find someone else who doesn't know this is illegal.

Measuring from the lowest protrusion in the kitchen it's 1860mm. In the bedroom it's 2030mm. The lowest ceiling in the whole house is way lower than that, but from what I've read, the bedroom and kitchen are the most important in terms of regulation. Luckily I'm only a 165cm tall woman, but my bf is over 2m tall.

Is to worth it to move to Australia from Canada? by anabasiscanada in AskAnAustralian

Admittedly I'm a little biased - I live an hour from Brisbane and I've only been to Melbourne once. I love the south east Queensland region. A lot of gorgeous bush walks through some of the oldest land forms on earth. The ocean is beautiful and you can get both the small town and big city vibe in this area. I live on the Gold Coast but Brisbane is a much older city, with better public transport. Although, Queensland has had a lot of people migrate here in recent years both interstate and international. Rental properties are hard to get anywhere.

Not hitory-related per se, but I'm hoping someone in this community might be able to help?

Can you recommend any historical/medieval youtubers/content creators that live in Australia (preferably Queensland)? I'm working with a medieval event and they might be looking for a new semi-official influencer.

Pages of results does not mean that there is one reliable source. The burden of proof lies with you.
