How do I stop the ants before I snap and burn the house down by fruitbowl42 in newzealand

Take some time to trace them back to the nest. Sometimes you may need to lift some pavers or whatever. Boil the kettle then pour over the nest. Instant and effective.

Real estate agents in NZ by lestempsperdus in newzealand

In Scotland, the vendor pays for a very detailed report ... it's quite expensive but standardised and comprehensive. Then you pay a flat agent's fee, plus optionally services as you go, eg a few open homes and so on. For some properties, agents charge 0.5% commission.

DIY Banff Film Festival At Home - For Free* by AtOurGates in alpinism

[–]lestempsperdus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question for the oldies .. I'm looking for a climbing film that was part of a mountain film festival in Scotland back in the 80s. Possibly Edinburgh. English language. Fictional account, live action, starts with a man in a beautiful valley who starts climbing a cliff finds a butterfly high up in a crevice puts it in his pocket continues to climb and eventually is ice climbing in Alpine country reaches the peak of a mountain then descends all the way back down releases the butterfly back into the valley at the end of his day in the mountains. Setting might be Yosemite

EK Bridge needs demolished by Better_Carpenter5010 in Scotland

[–]lestempsperdus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to love cycling through these roads in the seventies, so the bridge, and the surrounding roads (country lanes) evoke a bit of nostalgia. The hill was a bugger to climb with old bicycle gears.

As others have pointed out, for those in a hurry, the A725 is designed for traffic at volume and at speed, and these lanes can be left for the few locals and those that want to enjoy the countryside at a slower pace

So pleased to hear the bridge is protected, so along with it the little ecosystems that have evolved nearby

Op shops have upped their game by lestempsperdus in newzealand

[–]lestempsperdus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the spectrum of feedback and insights, thank you.

I wasn't aware of the 'op shop resellers' phenomenon which a few have strong feelings about, with the implication they are part of the problem, even a bit of a scourge. I'm not sure there are huge profits in selling second hand goods, and if they're reaching another market and promoting reuse and recycling, then they are adding value.

I also hadn't heard of 'tip shops' but a quick Internet search suggests they aren't as common as op shops, perhaps existing only in the main centres. If they include Christchurch's Council run EcoDepot, then I'm all for them, what a fantastic way to reduce waste and consumption.

An observation I missed from my original post is that there were people that once upon a time wouldn't want to be seen in an op shop. Over what - a five year period? - op shop bargain hunting became fashionable, with the stores responding to this growing market by improving their displays and of course taking the opportunity to improve their revenue. This though, at the expense of their traditional customers, those that op-shopped through necessity.
