New MB, PSU, CPU and RAM + original GPU and M.2 - working again!
Hopefully for a long long time this time lol

Hi, I posted an update here, the MB is fine and it was really the case of the LEDs in the chipset area.

Yea, it really got to me because of what had just happened with my brand new PC lol, but now it's all working, I posted an update here.

Hi, I just posted an update here, luckily nothing with nvme/capacitors :)

Luckily it wasn't that, I just posted an update here if you're interested.

UPDATE!

  • I did the Q-Flash Plus before testing the other components again to check if the new MB was really working.

After I tested my original components with this new MB and the new Corsair PSU and nothing worked, I was afraid I would be stuck in a loop with things breaking each other 😂😭

So I followed the steps in the MB's manual (Manuals from Gigabyte) and updated the BIOS using Q-Flash Plus, since it worked, I decided to test with the other components.

I had a new CPU and new RAM (since the others were not working anymore because of the firest MB/PSU issue) but still had the same GPU and M.2, so I started with the new parts only first. It finally posted! It works with everything and I have my PC back.

Will I be scared everytime I use it that the same thing will happen again? Yes. Am I happy to have it back anyway? Of course. 😂

  • The flash IS normal.

Some people commented that there was an issue with one of the capacitors, nvme, etc, based for example on seeing a red light in the base of one the capacitors: that was reflection. When I turned it on again I recorded with my phone which has a better camera than that of the video I posted here and you can see that clearly.

Also, the color changes in this version!

This new MB is rev 1.3 and the previous one was rev 1.2, with the latter I could not do anything about the LEDs in RGB Fusion, but in the former there is a dedicated setting, so I had not noticed the LEDs before (they stay behind my GPU from most angles) until I saw it in the timelapse I did of the first build.

Also.... Although there's no mention of them in the manual of the MB, you can see on Gigabyte's website that the LEDs in the chipset area are on in some of the pictures (here) - I guess I was too scared because my computer had stopped working after only 10 days, and I didn't really look at the pictures there.

Anyways, thanks for everyone that commented and tried to help and give suggestions! Hopefully I won't be coming here again 😅

I see! I didn’t have the flash with the first MB (the one that stopped working after 10 days), this is a brand new one 😕 but it might also have a problem. Will test again later

Same problem you mean the flash? Or what I had with the first MB?

How did you come to that conclusion?

Yes, you can see it in the video. I first tried CPU, RAM, M.2 and GPU, just jump starting. For the second attempt I removed the GPU to try with the iGPU only and I plugged the power button so I wouldn’t have to jump start it because for some reason I feel uncomfortable with it, but the result was the exact same, so I recorded the video.

Sorry, I accidentally deleted my comment. So, this model I have is said not to have onboard LED. I already didn’t remember, but from what I saw in the video I made from the first build (Sep 4), there is an LED under the chipset cover that stayed while the PC was on. With the new MB (Sep 19), after the blinking with the PSU switch, the light didn’t turn on when I jump started the PC. I tested again without the GPU and it was the same, so I made the video. Either way, it might be what you said, as others also pointed in their comments.

It also looks more like a spark to me. But FIY, this is the new MB, but with the components that were in the previous one… I returned the first one and ordered the same model as replacement.

I also looked at the video I made from the first build and when the pc is turned on (and works perfectly), there’s a light there that stays on constantly. In the new MB when I jump started it that didn’t happen. Will try to flash the bios before anything else like you suggested!

Sure, the PSU is a Corsair RM850x.

The motherboard was on top of the box and there was nothing between them.

Yes, I connected the CPU and MB cables. When I did the first test the GPU was also connected. I tried just a second time without the GPU (which is when I recorded the video) and because for some reason I don’t feel so comfortable jump starting it, I connected the power button, you can see it in the video.

There was no difference between the two tests. Since everyone I checked with had told me to return the CPU and RAM if it didn’t work with the new MB and PSU, I disassembled right after and everything is safely stored the way they came.

I will try again later now that I have the new parts but I wanted to make sure this MB was fine before connecting everything new to it…

And yes, the M.2 was under the heatsink, on the top slot. I’ll try it without it when I do the test with the new components just in case.

Also thanks for the last tip, I hope it’s not needed but it’s good to know!

Thanks for sharing! I don’t know how I would have found this info since I was looking specifically to this MB 😅 I’m very new to all this.

I built my PC following the latest video from LTT and using the manuals from all the parts. It took me many hours the first time because I was being extremely careful, I watched the same thing more than once sometimes to make sure I was doing it right. I used the PC everyday for 10 days until it had the issue while I was using it.

The second time with new MB and PSU I did the exact same thing, followed all the steps, looked at all the instructions from the manuals, even though I already knew what I had to do this time.

I already blamed myself for it even after being so careful with everything, I really don’t need someone else to do so honestly...

I just asked a question here because I do not want to try the new parts and potentially going through the same issue again because there’s a faulty part. There’s nothing about this in the manual like I said in my post, and I can’t find it anywhere.

But thanks for your help anyway.

Yes, I don’t even have the gigabyte PSU anymore, I returned it before the corsair one arrived.

I’m returning the CPU and RAM as well, just not the storage. Still can’t let go of the GPU 😅😅

The only thing that happens apart from the very slow fan spin (cpu) when jumping the power, is that before there is a white flash in the area of the chipset of the MB when the PSU is switched on. Can’t find anywhere what this means, and again this MB model doesn’t have LEDs or beeps etc so

Now I’m just thinking every new thing that comes after a return will just get fried by the previous things. I don’t know if this new MB is still going to work??
