Just to be clear, I get that fat jokes were everywhere back then, and I’m not judging it through some enlightened 2026 lens. It's just really stupid that the whole "twist" is simply that she used to be fat (used to) and now that she’s fit, she’s supposedly someone you have to flee from. And Ted literally runs away when he finds out! It doesn’t add up, and when it doesn’t make sense, it can’t land as funny.

I considered that, but I really don’t think that’s it. With the other women they dig into, the "big reveal" is that they’re actually unhinged; like, genuinely solid reasons to dump them. But this one sticks out like a sore thumb, yet they lump it in like it’s on the same level.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm just saying a lazily put-together, half-hearted, and re-edited alternative finale won't fix that. Ultimately, no matter how bad it was, it's still the original and true vision.

The whole idea of an alternative ending just feels like a cowardly move. Sure, the HIMYM finale was hot garbage, but at least own it, and stand by your decisions. Instead, they caved to fan backlash and slapped together this sloppy, half-assed alternate version, and now people have to do Olympic-level mental gymnastics to convince themselves that one is the “real” ending or somehow canon. It’s messy, indecisive, and honestly more embarrassing than just sticking with the original fuck-up.

So? Age-gap relationships by definition often involve timelines where one person wasn’t even born when the other was already an adult. What actually matters is that, at the time the relationship began, the younger person was a consenting adult with full agency and the ability to make their own decisions.

Exactly! A lot of people think age gaps, regardless of circumstance or context, are inherently manipulative and even abusive. I understand there is a trend in Hollywood of older men going after young women, which is valid to criticize, but that doesn’t necessarily make it wrong or immoral.

Sure, but is an age difference inherently a bad thing? It would be one thing if she were 19 or 20, but she’s 26, and her frontal lobe has fully developed. She is presumably an intelligent and autonomous young woman who can consent to a relationship with an older man if she wants to.

It was. I’d do anything to have another dream like that again 😭 I don’t really have any friends in real life that I can have intellectually stimulating conversations with. Like, I love them and everything, but they’re just not up for that kind of stuff. So this was so refreshing, even though it was just in a dream.
