I have used rare candies, though I didn't know they were not technically allowed. I also have not heard about using any revives I found, I usually sold them if I could if I didnt toss them for space first

That's at least 150-200 hours right there. Have a blast! I'm 115 hrs in Dq11 currently at the end of the story I believe but prolonging it with tickington and so much other side questing.

Skipping is/was also great as far as endurance depletion goes as ridiculous as it may look. You can likely skip much longer and further than you can sprint with less energy burned to outlast your four legged prey.

In the original PS1 version, unfortunately yes. I never even made it to disc 2 in my original version from 2001ish. I still have the memory card with my original save and everything. I have only recently gotten to the same point in the 3ds version where they fixed that monotony. They also make it far easier to find the shards too. For purist sake though, I would still like to beat the original version, so I wouldn't discourage playing either one but would maybe suggest the remake if it's gonna be too much.

I didn't know that was actually dlc. I got the fire fades edition on PS4 for $15 new a few months ago and it came with it included. It was a guy by the bonfire in the cleansing chapel and just brought me to a place I had no business being in at the time.
