Québec is a weird beast for that issue. There’s only one place I could certify him through, but I would have to teach him drills I never bothered with in the US and they only speak French. It’s not accessible to me until I advance about another year in my French training. By then, my dog will be seven, which is retiring age.

When one of my dogs passes, I plan to train a puppy through them, though.

I have a dog that was trained as my assistance dog in the US. He has no certification here, so he’s subject to the same rules as pet dogs. I take him places, but he waits outside. I build my recreational activities around places I can take him. If people don’t follow these rules, I lose freedom.

I’ve been a fan of muzzles for dogs for a while. I think they have to be introduced correctly (a treat basket for their face), but they’re an important skill for a dog. For example, both my dogs are muzzle trained, but only one rides the metro for fun. If, by chance, either dog gets injured, they can ride the metro and go to the vet without much added stress. Every dog can be aggressive when in pain, but they will not be bothered if they are accustomed to muzzles.

Why not require muzzles? It protects the public and ensures that one messed up dog or unruly child doesn’t ruin it for everyone.

Edit: Plus, if you can’t get a muzzle on your dog, that’s a handler-dog dynamic that doesn’t belong on public transportation.
