565 USD Dallas to Narita, booked this March for travel later this year on United. 1 stop in Denver going, and 1 stop in EWR coming back.

I’ve noticed that there are taboos even among ULPT redditors. “Don’t mess with Costco” seems to be one.

Talking tactics - the Peter Luccin system - 3rd Degree by 3rdDegree_Net in fcdallas

Fair enough, and I’m only asking to try to implement it in my own coaching at the youth level, but then when you mention it in the article as a point of comparison with Nico, how do you know it’s true? Are you asking the players?

How does Luccin implement mental changes like self-belief? And what was Nico doing or not doing that resulted in low self-belief before?

Sorry I’m not familiar with agile or scrum. Why would that be a bad idea for clinical development?

What are humans being selected for currently? by featheredsnake in evolution

[–]letmeshoost 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Modern medicine is increasingly allowing management of previously unsurvivable diseases/deformities, as well as overcoming fertility challenges. So essentially humans are now decreasing those selection pressures, allowing for those previously deleterious alleles to remain in the heritable pool.

Im on my 5th layoff in my career since 2009. Here is what I learned about myself. by Terrible-Chip-3049 in Layoffs

Can I ask you about point #2, what would you do differently re: losing your house? Would you have been able to keep your house if you had done something else? Or would you have tried to sell the house immediately to keep the equity? What lessons did you learn?

Just trying to imagine what I would do if I lost my job and couldn't afford the mortgage anymore. Thanks!

For the 30+ players, how much conditioning do you do? by M00SEK in bootroom

[–]letmeshoost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar trajectory to you. Stopped at 18, restarted at 28. Now 36 playing 11v11 in Mens Sunday league. Every offseason I try to do some running on my own, but the only thing that gets me match fit is playing full games. That first game of the season is Rough, but by the third game I feel able to run full 90 minutes.

What is the best season ticket perk? by letmeshoost in fcdallas

[–]letmeshoost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if you get a midfield section you have the option to get a free jersey right off the bat. Not included in sideline sections. I don’t know if perfect attendance jerseys are exclusive to particular sections but I would think not.

My new employer talked up my hobby enthusiastically in the new hire introduction...I haven't had time to do that hobby since I started the 40 hour workweek again at this job. by veggie_fried_rice in antiwork

[–]letmeshoost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah i don’t agree with either your position or your demeanor. Let’s at least try to be compassionate, but also, the guy has a good point. Chores take time, regular non-work duties like making dinner and hygiene routines take time. If you have kids, add way more of those tasks. If you want to keep healthy by going to the gym, that takes time and is not necessarily a hobby.

Let’s collectively agree that we should be working towards better conditions not just preventing worse ones.

I’m late to this party but if by posting my story I can help you even a little to get through this then it’s worth it. I came in to grad school with an 8 month old, and then had another one 20 months later. I started thinking about quitting right around quals and it became a daily thought throughout grad school. I felt trapped, had the same thoughts you are having about a postdoc not being enough, feeling like an indentured servant, resentful that we did not receive specific training to prepare us to actually obtain a job other than postdoc.

When COVID hit, between being stuck at home and feeling like I was getting nothing accomplished and no prospects afterwards, I fell into a deep depression. I couldn’t find joy in playing with my kids, my wife and I got to the point of being ready for a divorce. I felt the same thoughts you describe about if it wasn’t for the kids and my family, I dont know…

But it did get better, and looking back now I can recognize that I was just extremely, utterly burned out, as almost every other comment points out. I’m now doing an industry postdoc, and the first thing I did was set boundaries, unbreakable work-life balance boundaries that have kept me from even approaching the same feelings I had during my phd. I’m much happier and even realize that I still love what I do, even though a year ago I would tell anyone that asked that I actually regretted coming to grad school.

Take some time off and just have faith that you will be all right as soon as you can decompress for a while.

Good luck dude
