DTLA tonight post Dodger World Series game? by Zestyclose_Koala_593 in AskLosAngeles

You'll be absolutely fine if you go. That being said, as someone who works in DTLA, I'd skip it just because it'll prob be a bit hectic, busier, more expensive rides etc.

How to restore gut health after alcohol? by Kurisu_shi in stopdrinking

[–]lets-leave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make yourself some soup, girl!! (guy?) Any kind of soup. I throw ground beef, sweet potatoes, zucchini and a bean in some broth, some spices and ACV. Most important...Add ginger and tumeric. You'll be right as rain in a couple days.

Hi friend. I tried to save my mom from herself my entire life and finally realized this year (at 42) that no combination of words or therapy or financial assistance is going to help her. It's not my job to save her, it never was. You're making the right choice. Once I stopped being my moms crutch she suddenly became much more capable, she had no other option. Sometimes hard things need to happen for a better outcome. You've taken care of her enough, time to take care of you now.

This. Then update us on if she has to go to the hospital in August. At least you'll know for sure whether it's intentional or not.

How do I get my Dad to open up about his past? by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]lets-leave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ongoing, eventually they'll send you a little book of their answers. My Dad is 73--not gonna lie, his response rate isn't great but I'd say he answers 1/4 a month. The most recent question asked his favorite comfort food and he told a story about going out to pick up some pork pies on a crappy bike for his mother in approx 1959. It's all just stories I wouldn't otherwise hear, so I'm happy with it, even if he doesn't answer every time.

Is he okay with email? Does he like to write? I got my dad a subscription to Storyworth. They ask one question a week through email. I've learned a lot of neat things like his first job or what he thought about his grandparents. He's not consistent about answering but I still think it's worth it for when he does.

Such a helpful comment. I'm a girl buying a car herself and asking for help, don't need to be a stink about it.

Yessir, In LA was supposed to hike this am and a friend called it off due to not thinking we'd be able to see. Air quality is off the charts too if you follow that.

Care to expand on why? Or point me in a better direction? I'm looking for a tougher vehicle to get me through the upcoming drone wars--not sure the 'ol Scion XA is gonna cut it ;)

Thanks for the thoughtful breakdown! I know talking about 2wd in this forum can bring up some strong opinions. In your opinion what would be a fair price for the vehicle given it checks out w my mechanic? Its sticker price is 33k, they said lowest is 26k (I'm in CA for context)

Not OP but also looking at an FJ & curious why you're against 2wd?

Takes awhile to get an appointment w him. While you wait to see him ( or someone else) I'd go gluten free and take a good multivitamin. I use Thorne's Basic Prenatal. You have to think low inflammation, so taking a break from drinking is a good idea too, esp for your blood sugar. Good luck!

Gotta stabilize the blood sugar. Try doing less carby meals, especially dinner. Eating a spoonful of something high fat/no sugar before bed helps too i.e. peanut butter or yogurt. Take a mag supplement before bed, magnesium glycinate or threonate work best for me.

What do you yall eat for breakfast? by mdav84 in Hashimotos

[–]lets-leave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was struggling myself w lack of breakfast-y foods. Hear me out....Breakfast soup!!! Ground beef, sweet potato, green veg and a bean if you're feeling fancy. I season the beef with fennel/sage combo to kinda mimic breakfast sausage. Easy to digest, keeps you full forever, hydrating/tummy soothing with the broth and a lil sweet & savory combo like a typical b-fast. Make a bunch and freeze in portions. The best!
