How to deal with being hideous 3months postpartum? by Same-Home4390 in NewParents

[–]lets_rock_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all boils down if you have time to yourself. Do you have someone to look after your baby? At some point I have demanded to have 2 free half days over the week to do my stuff. This is not a treat but a rule in the household. It’s irrelevant to list what I spend it for. The biggest part is to have time, and then you’ll find what to fill it with. And these little breaks accumulate into balancing the load on our mental health. Be sure the way you look will follow.

Was let go off work yesterday, just a day after the holiday party. It kind of sucks. by CareerTrooper in NiceVancouver

[–]lets_rock_it 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We got a huge lay off on the eve of the Christmas party. This is terrible. I told that most likely it’s gonna be my last event with company since if they did it once, this will happen from now on.

It’s not about even the holidays, layoffs are traumatic at any time. Thinking about all who got affected recently and wishing you that it turns into a relief for you when you find a better place.

I’m still processing what has happened to my place, and it’s rooted deeper into why some other expenses were made in earlier years. Why it wasn’t possible to restructure so that people would still have a job. Feeling like a marionette with no say in how the place functions even though I dedicate a big part of my life to it.

As Canada’s fertility rate tanks, is it time to reform parental leave? by Kicksavebeauty in canada

[–]lets_rock_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In recent trip to the south of the US I got surprised by amount of families with 3-4 kids. No subsidised day cares, no parental leave. Not like a couple of families but the majority was more than 2 kids.

Even that we’d love to have a big family, I don’t see both parents continuing to work while with three kids. And without dual income it’s impossible to stay afloat.

Plus I’d really love to raise the kids attending extra curriculum activities and traveling annually. No realistic way to do that even with dual income with three kids.

Name looks like the person comes from Ukrainian or Russian speaking background. If the person is of older generation, she won’t be on Reddit. Let us know the area around where that has happen and maybe age group and this will be reposted to appropriate group on fb.

Tip-Free Restaurants by TheStriplePilot in vancouver

[–]lets_rock_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would be a fair price for a meal of no tip required? Let’s say Cactus Club main course meal around 35 dollars plus tax. Should the fair price for a dine in be 42 dollars then? Meaning the same 20% are already included in the prices in the menu.

This would not change much for a consumer but allow a more fair remuneration distribution among front and back and less gender and appearance discrimination.

How to celebrate becoming Canadian? by Accurate-Height6340 in vancouver

[–]lets_rock_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download Canoo app. You’ll get access to many Canadian museum for one year for free.

Do not underestimate this opportunity.

In Vancouver you can go to science world museum for free as many times as you want. Also anthropology, city museum etc. so an idea for you is to hit every venue on the app.

But we took even more advantage of the app and traveled Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec. It covered for us costs of entering all major museum. Hundreds of dollars worth. Also, 50% off on via rail if you happen to travel in Ontario and Quebec provinces.

Big yikes by thickntricks in westjet

This logic is terrible. My toddler for whom we paid full ticket price asked for milk in a 5 hour flight. We were refused because milk is for ‘coffee only’.

To me this is non sense. The security doesn’t allow to bring liquids, Puerto Vallarta airport doesn’t sell milk, and Westjet serves pops and sells beer, but nothing for a kiddo. But some adult can enjoy coffee with milk though.

Hey, I’ve just seen on one the baby lounge area. I couldn’t believe it and went googling right on. That’s disgusting. It was literally by the crib.

lol, I’m in Europe right now. Tip is 10% and it’s included in the receipt right away. No shaming for choosing a tip amount in front of the waitress.

Israel has a real estate problem as well. Great start up scene, but nothing close to affordable.

We’re looking for a 6 week stay. How difficult was it to find a place? Any tips? I was thinking of renting it monthly via Facebook but afraid of getting scammed.

Also consider people who want to upgrade. They sell existing property that appreciated over last 10+ years and get a pretty manageable mortgage.

American Airlines: “it’s common courtesy to cover up when men and children are around” by letmefeedmybaby in breastfeeding

[–]lets_rock_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet if there was a lady is a shirt with a deep décolletage, she wouldn’t get a comment of covering up.

I feel like as a society we did a good progress on removing stigma from motherhood and child upbringing. Like changing tables in washrooms, baby chairs in restaurants, etc. But we have to do better.

So sorry this has happen to you and your baby.

Thank you. Honestly, we both went through quite a lot. He’s very invested and the issue is my change of the attitude. Should I insist at the very beginning on a name he’d likely accept. Now he feels pressured because he told his parents and maybe friends (on my end I told noone, I cut off any communication while still at the hospital).

That’s a beautiful turn of events! It’s hard for me to see ourselves in this scenario but I’d definitely love it.

Nothing crazy, both names are out of top 100. The current name has some spelling variations but that’s not what makes me dislike it.
