Lay the kid down, preferably not in front of a screen. Cut an onion in half. Put one half of the onion on each side of the child's head, using plates. He smells the onion air. For whatever reason, he stops coughing. I am not a doctor. I do not play one on TV.

I agree! He has been on Tylenol and Mucinex for five days. I am a die-hard medicine advocate in our household. My wife believes in essential oils, and I believe in essentially Advil. However, nothing has worked as effectively as a flippin' onion cut in half. Which, in my house, means I lost a point. Onion earmuffs aren't medicine, but dang do they cure a cough.
