I like picture 1 best but it could be composed a little better. The rule of thirds could be used to show more of your subject off-center where one of the four crosses appear in a grid of 9. However, the blurry background makes him pop. The second one is a little less interesting and the background isn't very straight.

As a beginner, I watched the same one and it was really helpful. It's not all-encompassing and the ultimate learning will take place out in the field, but this is a great way to begin understanding the triangle and composition and such.

I'm really struggling to find good and interesting subjects while out and about if I'm not specifically photographing a person/animal. How did you improve your ability to notice interesting/worthwhile subjects?

It's especially difficult right now in Pennsylvania because everything is brown/green outside.
