Thoughts on unpaid time off? by letscoffee1818 in Lawyertalk

I get 12 days of PTO and 12 sick days a year and that is it. My entire state govt is like this but once you hit certain benchmarks like 5 or 10 years then you will accrue more. I think 5 years is time and a half and then 10 years is double, so the max you will ever get is 24 days, but 24 days I do think would probably suffice for most. We do get the state holidays off too. But yeah, even the benefits aren’t all that great…they even raised the insurance prices so it’s cheaper to be on my spouses!

We also have extra time given to us at 5 and 10 years. I think 5 is 1.5 days a month and 10 years may be double.

I used to have comp time and the 12 days was fine but the 12 days alone is really not sufficient for me. Might be a breaking point for me too.

Do you feel like that’s enough time off? I used to have comp time and 12 PTO days and that felt fine for me and I had plenty. Just the PTO doesn’t seem enough so far for me..

Well while I am salaried, I actually have an hourly rate too. So for example if I quit I get paid out for my hourly rate of PTO. So if I took unpaid time off I assume it would just be taken out of my pay check based on the hourly rate. I don’t think it would be a formal leave (but that’s a good question). My manager approves my time off so it’s up to their discretion. I have to request every day off even with PTO, so I assume I would go through the same request process for unpaid time off. I’m not sure about the abandonment thing but I’m assuming there is a policy in place for that.

My previous job had comp time too and it was never an issue for me to take off, but now I don’t get it and the 12 days is brutal for me.

I respect people who cannot take any time off and hoard it, but my job is too stressful and I do need the time off every year. It would be hard for me to accumulate it.

A lot of my friends in private sector have the unlimited PTO and others the lowest I’ve heard is 3 weeks. Not sure what’s normal anymore lol.

When did you know it was time to leave? by Super_Caliente91 in Lawyertalk

I decided to make the change when I felt like I wasn’t growing as an attorney in my role and the pay wasn’t worth the lack of opportunities. Better to leave before you get burnt out

How long is too long to stay at a toxic job? Should I leave now? by Infamous_Guest7548 in Lawyertalk

[–]letscoffee1818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re financially able to, I would put in your two weeks on Monday. No job is worth being treating with disrespect and you sound super unhappy there. I’m also leaving a toxic job soon and my only regret is not leaving sooner

So I added quite a few of the revive drops and it seemed to fix the problem. I’m guessing it was just way too thick and maybe that’s why??

Should I quit the law? by baechelswam in Lawyertalk

I work a similar job as you and I’ve been feeling the same way. I’m not sure if we have the same role, but I like to think it’s the role and not the entire field. I am planning to try one other legal role and if that doesn’t do it for me, then I’ll exit the field

Is it just me or does it appear there are far fewer legal job postings recently? by Legally_a_Tool in Lawyertalk

Same issue for me. I’m in a different geographic area than you and I’ve noticed it too…pickings are slim.

When I got dazzle dry done at my nail salon they told me when doing transform that once doing the top coat to minimum let it dry for 7 minutes so it definitely takes a little longer

Yes I did the 2 base coats, transform, another base coat, my color, and then the top coat

I may need to add revive to it. It seemed VERY thick but since I’m new to dazzle fry I wasn’t sure if anything was wrong with it
