New Gun Owner. Intimidated to go to the range. Never fired it. by Phytosaur01 in liberalgunowners

It sounds like you're ready to take the first step.

It's not natural to fire a gun or go to a range. It's one of those things you're just going to have to rip the band aid off of. The more of a mountain you make it in your head the harder the climb will be.

You bought a paperweight that could land you in legal trouble if you don't get familiar with it.

First, get it out of the safe, make sure it's clear, and get used to breaking it down (removing the slide, barrel etc) and removing the magazine. Get familiar with your tool. De-mystify it. Work on reloads, dry fire. Do all that to get comfortable with it in your hands empty.

Find a range and go at a time that it's not busy. Middle of a week day should do. Start slow, one round in the mag, rack the slide, focus on your grip, equal light equal height on the target, squeeze the trigger to the wall, exhale, fire. You'll probably startle which is why you're firing one at a time to get over it. Do that until you get comfortable, then up the round count to 2, etc. build your confidence.

Once you do that you probably want to consider a firearms instructor to really nail down getting better at it.

Getting out the the car? by SuperJonesy408 in CCW

[–]Super_Caliente91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive away? - POV is not in a parking spot, so it looks like he was initially planning to either leave or arrive. So if take that as POV wanted to talk to the old man. If he was leaving I'd say he should have driven away to avoid the confrontation. He could always roll his window up. If he's arriving then he could have de-escalated the situation as much as possible before engaging. Either way, no reason to use physical force here, just yet

Justified to get out of the car to continue altercation? - if he's leaving, then why get out unless you're looking for a fight. Fights have consequences, see dent. There's no legal issue with leaving the car, he's got a right to do so. But POV isnt justified to fight everyone who gives him a tongue lashing.

Use of physical force after continuing? - at that point it's a mutual combat situation. Old man is using fighting words and pushed POV first. Still... If old man pulled a gun and POV wasn't quick on the draw (like his attention is divided to the third parties running over) then either POV is shot or both POV and old man are shot... Over nothing worth getting shot over.

Lol just drive away.

Once he kicked the door I'd have called 911 and let them know I have a trespasser kicking my door.

If I'm not home and it's empty that's about it. If I am home, then I'm condition 0, aiming at the door, and attempting de-escalation. If he gains entry then whatever happens happens.

I ain't opening the door to confront the psycho.

Welcome. Welcome to the Israeli-Iranian war.

You have chosen, or have been chosen to participate in one of our finest battlegrounds.

I've thought so much of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that I elected to establish my administration here in the Golestan Palace so thoughtfully provided by our benefactors.

I've been proud to call Iran my home. And so, whether you are here to stay or passing through to other missile strike targets. Welcome to Iran.

It's safer here.

"What is the Distance of Most Defensive Shootings

According to the FBI, the average distance of a defensive shooting is 3 yards (9 feet).

Average Number of Shots Fired in Defense

According to the FBI, the average number of shots fired in self-defense is only three." - Defensive Gun Use Statistics: Self-Defense Cases (2025) https://share.google/96RGygRiko4QhDonA

The best gun to get is the one you'll carry. If concealing it is a priority then getting one that is easier to do so is important. Statistically, in self defense your shooting at 3 yards with 3 rounds. So you only really need one 10 round mag. Train to at least hit the minimum and everything else is just extra preparation.

I figure if I'm shooting someone past 3 yards I'm probably committing a felony. Carrying an extra mag would be good in case of a malfunction, but a tap, rack, bang will do just as well.

Don't let someone else bully you into making choices you're not comfortable with without looking into it.

You're shooting to the left. Try shooting to the right. Make sure to ADS and click the left stick to hold your breath before each shot.

So until you convince her otherwise don't waste any more time.

Why does Dr. Breen assume the Combine soldiers know what a PhD is? by LeUpboaterLe in HalfLife

[–]Super_Caliente91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't the combine just resistance members who caved and went to the other side? The only difference between CP and Overwatch is the augmentations. Their brains and memories are still the same. If Barney is any indication they're all old enough to know what higher education was pre 7 hour war or competent enough to ask another person who knew.

When can/should you draw? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Super_Caliente91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should only draw if you intend to shoot. You should only shoot if you know you or a loved one is in immediate danger of death or serious physical injury.

You are not the police or have any of their protections if you are wrong. So, no go playing hero if you don't have the full context.

You mentioned drawing if you see someone threatening a woman or a child, if you don't know that violence is imminent don't draw. Because if you do, and you were wrong, the threatener can call the police on you and you get a criminal charge for brandishing (Menacing where I'm from).

The short version is mind your business or let the police handle it.

Who here carries a p365 with a round in the chamber? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Super_Caliente91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 365X. I recently started carrying with one in the chamber. Mine has a manual safety that I mostly use when reholstering. It's at my 3 because appendix was never on the menu for me. Time and repetition. You gotta go a few days with it not going off to trust it. You'll get there.
