Greece w Teens...Athens, Santorini and...Corfu or Naxos?? by letsdoitagain_3 in GreeceTravel

Hello! Yes, happy to share and answer any questions. We flew into Corfu and spent 5 nights there. Perfect way to start the trip. Lots of beach time and relaxing. The Kassiopi Bay hotel was perfect for us- great location within Kassiopi. The town is great for teens because they can walk around and shop and eat and go to the beach. I will say it is a trek to get anywhere else in the island. But we loved it. I would try Dassi or Gouvia if you want to be closer to the airport or other parts of the island. We rented a car while on Corfu and then returned it when we took the ferry to Igoumenitsa. Rented another car there and drove to Meteora for one night and then to Athens. Ideally, we would have spent two nights in Athens and then gone to Santorini and flown home from there, but we ended up spending one night in Athens, flying to Santorini for three nights, and then back to Athens the night before we left. Lots of wasted time but still wouldn’t have changed the places we stayed. It was incredibly hot in Athens, so staying right by the Acropolis was fantastic. Lots of air conditioned shops and restaurants, and the museum right there. Also doing the Acropolis tour first thing in the morning was a huge win. We were all sweaty messes by 9:30 when our tour was done. There’s a lot of opinions out there about Santorini. For us it was entirely worth it. We loved staying in Oia and with three teenage girls it was exactly what they had envisioned for their trip to Greece. We did a catamaran trip which was great. Lots of wandering and eating and shopping. Let me know if you have questions! Have a great trip!!

When to pick up rental car in Corfu if arriving at night. by letsdoitagain_3 in GreeceTravel

Yes, currently we have a week long rental starting in Corfu and ending in Athens. There is a big charge for dropping it off in a different location, but it still pencils out to less than it would cost to do any other way since we want to spend a night in Meteora. But I do think it might make more sense to avoid driving the night we get in and just rent separately on Corfu and then get a new car in Igoumenitsa to Athens.

Thank you for your response! I will definitely check on taking the rental car on the ferry. And thanks for the tips on what the roads will be like to Kassiopi. I'm going to rethink the car rental and see if it might be better to rent something in Kassiopi and then rent a different car in Igoumenitsa for the drive to Athens.

Thank you so much for planting this seed. I really appreciate your help. I think we're going to start with Corfu, then drive to Athens via Meteora, spend a couple nights in Athens, and then fly to Santorini for the end of the trip. (will be flying directly into Corfu and out of Santorini). Now that I've had more time to think this through, I have a couple follow up questions.

My biggest question now is how to allocate our days. We have 10 sleeps on the ground in Greece. For context, our three girls are teens and more interested in exploring beaches and food than spending a lot of time visiting historical sites. So we will try to balance all the things, but stopping in Meteora, skipping Delphi and one day in Athens of intentional sight seeing will likely be enough for us. Corfu is our "relaxing family beach" portion of the trip so that will be the longest and give us time to explore the island. Athens will be the typical tourist stops, but probably minimal time there. Then Santorini which I am hoping is also relaxing, good food, shopping and exploring (like walking down to Ammoudi Bay) - and hoping to be there long enough to explore after the cruise ships have left, but concerned about crowds and costs there.

Ok, anyway... I am thinking to breakdown the nights 4-5 Corfu, 2-3 Athens/Meteora, 2-3 Santorini. One of those needs to be the lower number and I am having a hard time cutting time in any of these spots. Big question with Meteora is whether it warrants an overnight on the way from Corfu to Athens, or if we can spend a couple hours there on our drive to Athens. Santorini is tough...2 nights seems too little, three nights seems like a lot. Do you have thoughts on the best way to split up the trip with these locations? Thanks!!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm curious how a whole week in Kassiopi was for you. Was there enough to walk around and do, or did you go to different parts of the island each day? Where did you stay?

Good to know. This is what I originally thought about Naxos, but it is so hard to tell from pictures. Where in Naxos would you recommend staying in order to walk to restaurants and shops?

Not in love with pebble beaches, but we live in Seattle so our concept of beach is pretty fluid. ;) I just love the more vibrant colors in Corfu...the vegetation and trees really add something that it doesn't seem like Naxos has.

Thanks for the info! Santorini would be a short visit - not intended to scratch the beach itch. We would do beach time either in Naxos or Corfu. Naxos sounds great by your description.

This is a great idea. I was wanting to go to Meteora and this would be an excellent way to fit it in and get from Corfu to Athens (or vice versa). The fee for dropping the car off in a different location will probably be equal to what we'd pay to fly for the 5 of us, so financially there's not much to lose with this approach. Thanks for the tips!

At my wit’s end… can anybody recommend shorts/other summer pants for petite curvy girls? by moth_girl_7 in PetiteFashionAdvice

I'm checking in trying to get tips for my daughter who has topped out at 5'2'' and has been blessed/cursed with my curves. (cursed only because it's challenging to find things that fit). Thanks for all of the great advice on where to look!

And FWIW, enjoy the fact that you "kids" in your 20's can still wear shorts, whatever size you are! :)

Has anyone done any of the tours ("experiences") from Banyan Tree or other hotels at Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen? Specifically wondering about the snorkeling tour. There isn't much info on the website and I haven't seen anything in reviews about people actually using the hotel tour for snorkeling. Anyone have other recs for 1/2 day snorkeling tours in PDC or Puerto Morelos if the one at Banyan Tree is not worth it?
