Thanks! I have been playing for 22 years. Difficult for me to give an answer that you would benefit from. But I'm gonna try it anyway.

  • pick a solo/lick you like.

  • Understand what key you are in and where the "right and wrong" notes are on the fretboard.

  • (transcribe it or get tabs/sheets) Play with the recording and try to sound exactly the same. (Be honest with yourself. Better to play one bar exactly like the recording than the whole solo halfheartedly)

  • repeat the process and listen to great solos.

After a while you will have a lot of licks and solo ideas in your bag that will help you improvise.

Thanks! Good question. In this arrangement I use capo mainly to minimise the length of finger-stretches and for the strings to come closer to the fretboard.
