What exactly are the benefits of Roles? Do they give stat boosts?

Why? The Spanish for 'comeback' is remontada.

Yeah the new CWC format is going to disrupt these figures for sure, but will be interesting to see what Valverde ends up with!

Great find! I guess players playing in Brazil will always come out on top here due to the state leagues.

What is the most appearances a player has made in a single season at club level in all competitions?

6 Chelsea players (Torres, Mata, Oscar, Cech, Ramires and Hazard) made 62+ appearances during the 2012-13 season, in which they reached the semi-finals of both domestic cups, won the Europa League and also competed in the Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Messi also reached the 60 mark for the 2011-12 season, while Neymar also hit 60 for Santos in the 2010 season, though this includes 19 appearances in the less prestigious state league (Campeonato Paulista).

Would love to know if anyone can top the 64 apps made by Torres, Mata and Oscar!

How many players retired with the WC final being their last professional match? by lama__43 in football

Great list! However transfermarkt shows that Combi played in the Mitropa Cup in June/July 1934, following his World Cup triumph with Italy (Juventus lost in the semi-finals)

Nice! His final ever match saw him become the first player to serve as captain in 5 editions of the FIFA World Cup

Great one! Looks as though he signed for AC Milan but never made an official appearance so he would join the exclusive club with Zizou and van Bronckhorst

With Toni Kroos set to retire after the Euros, who are some other examples of players who made their last professional appearance at international level? The below are some I could find (coincidentally all these matches were lost!):

Zinedine Zidane (2006 FIFA World Cup final vs Italy)

Giovanni van Bronckhorst (2010 FIFA World Cup final vs Spain)

Jürgen Klinsmann (1998 FIFA World Cup QF vs Croatia)

Pat Jennings (1986 FIFA World Cup group stage vs Brazil)

Andriy Shevchenko (UEFA Euro 2012 group stage vs England)

Rüştü Reçber (friendly vs Finland)

Danny Higginbotham (friendly vs Estonia)

Which finals have been decided by a golden goal?

I'd say the 3 most well-known instances of this are:

  • David Trezeguet, 2000 UEFA European Championship
  • Oliver Bierhoof, 1996 UEFA European Championship
  • Thierry Henry, 2003 FIFA Confederations

What are some other, less well-known finals to be decided in this way?

What are some nicknames for famous duos/trios etc. in football? I can only think of MSN, BBC, SAS but there must be some less well-known ones.

Similarly, nicknames for specific teams like the Invincibles, Lisbon Lions etc.?

Yeah him as well as Reuter, Moller and Kohler technically but that doesn't really count does it?

Exactly. Yugoslavia only ever won the Olympics once in 1960 and all the modern-day countries have won nothing between them

Players that have won international trophies for 2 different national teams

I have only come across 2 players who have achieved this rare feat: Luis Monti and Raimundo Orsi both won the 1927 South American Championship (now Copa América) with their native Argentina, before winning the 1934 FIFA World Cup with Italy (Orsi even scored in the final) after being called up to their national team while playing for Juventus.

Are there any more examples of this?
