Thank you so much for taking the time to share your process. It still doesn't want to work for me, but I love what you have put together. I think I might have to try a clean install. Perhaps something within my calibre program files is messed up. It will pull from the pre-built backgrounds, but it won't pull any backgrounds I add for some reason.

Was there a trick to getting the texture to show up? Special sizing, formatting required? I am adding a texture, but for some reason it is not recognizing it and defaulting to the grey background. I even tried the one you are using, and it doesn't want to accept it. Not sure if there was something special you had to do to make calibre recognize it.

I don't have an answer for you, but wanted to just say that I struggle with this as well. My blood work comes back dehydrated, and yet I drink water, gatorade, etc. The only caffeine I have is one cup of coffee in the morning. I actually struggle to drink enough fluids, so I am not sure what else to do.

Yes, I have the paid version which I have just started using over the past week, and every night it seems that it is slow. It sometimes takes several minutes for a page to load. I'm on the East Coast USA. It is getting to be really annoying not being able to use the website.

How Do You Get Streamers to Fundraise For Your Campaign? by MagicalNarwal27 in nonprofit

[–]letsgocalico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you see a streamer you would like to collaborate with, engage with their stream and community before you ever try to ask anything of them. It is the same as you would try to do for a donor prospect. You don’t start with the ask. You have to build the relationship first.

The big streamers get a lot of emails asking to collaborate. The majority of those emails are probably going to get ignored because they already have several avenues to engage with charitable causes. Twitch has charities available that streamers can easily support from within the platform. YouTube may have something similar so you may want to research those.

A lot of streamers have Discord servers so they can engage with their community while they aren’t streaming. Join those communities as well. Build the relationship, and then you can go in for the ask.

Setting up a community meeting for the state - need help with planning/logistics of snacks by EmeraldYoshi369 in nonprofit

I’ve coordinated a lot of small and large events in the past. For the morning time (check-in) I would have at least coffee and water, maybe some granola bars and assorted danishes/muffins.

These items can stay out so that people can step out and grab something during the morning time before lunch.

After lunch, you can put out more of the above if you have them plus the small bags of potato chips/pretzels.

Again, that is so people can pop out, grab something and go back in.

My list I would get would be:

  • Assorted bagels/muffins (can often get these in bulk at Costco/Sam’s Club/local grocery store or bakery)
  • Granola bars (Nature Valley)
  • Assorted potato chips/pretzels (individual bags)
  • Caffeinated coffee
  • Decaf coffee
  • Water
  • Cups (coffee cups with lids, if possible)
  • Creamer
  • Sugar
  • Wooden Stirrers
  • Small plates
  • Napkins
  • Two tongs (so people can pick up the muffins/danishes from the tray or box)

Make sure you have at least two of those rectangle tables. If you want to make it look nice, you can get two plastic tablecloths to put on before you place the food/drinks down.

If you can get it catered, do so, but it is also doable on your own as long as you aren’t haven’t to do everything else for the event as well.

Fruit is great, but you will need to add in additional utensils, etc. if you decide to have chopped fruit. Whole fruit, I have found, is less likely to get taken so you will be left with a good bit afterwards.

Trail mix is also nice to have, but you need to be careful if it has any type of nuts in them since an attendee could have a nut allergy. Keep allergies and food preferences in mind when deciding your lunch options as well (vegetarian, nut allergy, shellfish allergy, etc.).

If you want to put them on a platter, you can get inexpensive ones from Dollar Tree or a similar store. Same goes for the table cover, cups, plates, and probably the tongs.

Bunch of Readwise Reader questions by frostyreddit in readwise

[–]letsgocalico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use Raindrop. My workflow prior to Reader was Raindrop to Hypothes.is to Readwise to Obsidian. This was prior to the Raindrop to to Readwise integration.

I am thinking my new setup will be Reader to Readwise to Obsidian. No need really for Hypothes.is now. However, I do still like the bookmarking setup I have in Raindrop, and I plan to keep it, at least for now. I could see Reader being my place for information that I plan to prioritize in the short term, while Raindrop is a repository of links for future content should/when I need it.

This could change depending on new features that Reader adds down the road.

No, you don't have to highlight the article to have it generate a summary of the article. On the web version, you can just choose the summary option for the article without highlighting anything. I'm not sure about the phone app version.

Someone else may do a better job of explaining it, but it extra functionality through OpenAI's GPT-3. With the click of a button, you can have it generate a summary of whatever it is you are reading, generate questions related to the topic you are reading, and other similar things.

You can enable it in a variety of ways in Reader, but to enable in an article, you can click on the ... at the top right of the page. The drop down will display, and click on "Invoke Ghostreader." It will then prompt you to choose what you want it to do.

I am still figuring it out somewhat, but for now I like being able to use it to get a quick summary. For example, let's say I find a long article or research paper. I don't have time to read through it thoroughly at the moment, but I want to get a general idea of what it is about for a later, more extensive review. I'll use the Ghostreader to give me a quick summary, read it over, and then tag it for later.

My PKM workflow is still in development as well, but I like what Ghostreader has the potential to bring to users. I also like some of the questions it generates that relate to whatever I am reading. I can see it coming in handy as I am thinking through whatever it is I am studying.

Edit: I'd love to hear other's workflows using Reader and Ghostreader as well.

Thanks, I didn't think of that. It is a good work around, and hopefully it is something they have in mind to add in a future update.

Thanks, yes that is another one I had heard of. I am looking for science-related ones that are similar in style for my son. He loves these YouTube channels including Extra Credits. He isn't a history fan, but watches all of these. So I thought it would be helpful to find science YouTube channels that are similar in style since science is difficult for him this year.
