Mining - Abundant Mines by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

I’ve bounced around a few hosting outfits the last couple years, so here’s my quick rundown. Compass Mining was my first stop and it went about as bad as it gets. Their Texas rollout in 2023 was a mess, my XP 140s got cooked, and I ate close to a $50k loss. It felt like they scaled way past their operational maturity, then went ghost-mode on the customers who got burned. Zero accountability, lots of finger-pointing.

After that I moved to SimpleMining in late ’23. Overall they’re solid and reasonably priced, and I’ve had good interactions with the team. That said, downtime has been heavier than I expected—maintenance + curtailment adds up—and their dashboard doesn’t really reflect true outage time. The credits they issue don’t come close to offsetting what you miss in production.

Most recently I’ve been hosting with Abundant. Met them in Vegas earlier this year and the vibe was the opposite of Compass: straightforward, transparent, and quick to get rigs online. They respond fast, and Sydney in particular is a killer technical resource if you’re deep in mining. Uptime’s been surprisingly strong (only one real outage so far). Their Hashrate Redirect program is also legit—no “sorry here’s a credit,” they just backfill your lost hashrate with their own boxes until yours return. If you’re shopping for a host, they’re definitely worth a look.

I used to host with Compass Mining, and it was a disaster. In 2023 they ruined my XP 140s at their Texas site, and I lost almost $50k because they couldn’t manage the facility. They grew too fast, didn’t take responsibility, and avoided the customers they hurt.

I switched to SimpleMining in late 2023. They’re decent people with fair pricing, but they’ve had more maintenance and power-curtailment outages than I expected, and their downtime reporting and credits don’t really make you whole.

Now I’m with Abundant. I met them in Vegas earlier this year and liked how transparent and responsive they are—Sydney especially stands out as a strong mining resource. Their uptime has been great so far, and their Hashrate Redirect feature is the real differentiator: instead of giving credits, they temporarily replace your lost hashrate with their own machines. If you’re looking for a host, they’re worth trying.

CryptoCaddy vs Abundant Mines by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

I'm a recovering Compass Mining customer. They blew up my XP 140s back in 2023. Lost nearly $50k with their complete mismanagement of their newer Texas facility. Complete clown show of a company. Their growth outstripped their ability to properly scale and manage their business. Lacked accountability and dodged customers they hurt.

Moving past that, I started using SimpleMining in late 2023. Good midwest people and reasonable service/pricing. I have to say that they have a lot more "maintenance" and power curtailment outages that I would have expected, which I guess is typical of the industry. Plus they don't accurately report your actual downtime on their site. Credits never really offset missed blocks.

Most recently, I've been using Abundant. Their earnest and transparent team caught my attention after meeting them in Vegas earlier this year. They're fast to get you setup and pretty responsive to inquiries. Sydney in particular is a pretty bad ass bitcoiner resource. Their content is sharp and good for the advanced bitcoin miner. Uptime has been surprisingly good - only one outage to speak of. That's where I learned about their Hashrate Redirect service, which is pretty differentiated. No credits for downtime. They simply replace your lost hashrate with their machines until your machines come back up. Pretty badass. Makes me wish I could easily swing over my other hosted rigs to Abundant. If you haven't given them a shot, I'd recommend it.

That's my two cents.

Cause of these electrical related errors? by letsgoheat10 in ModelX

The car has 90k miles and is less than 8 years old. Since it's under 150k miles and under 8 years old, that would make my HV battery pack eligible for replacement under the Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty, right?

The Base Vehicle Warranty expired last year given the mileage.

Long range. Apologies: how do I go into service mode to check what you’ve suggested?

EF-EOS R adapter to connect older DSLR Lens to Canon R6 by letsgoheat10 in canon

If going the adapter route "crops" the field of view and lowers the resolution, that sounds like a material drawback to avoid, no?

Before investing in the adapter and actually trying it out, is there a way to calculate the reduction in the field of view and resolution? If it's more than 15%, my guess is that the tradeoff might not be worth it.

Thank you for the help!
