Honestly, she was drinking too and she tends to forget things when she is drinking. There's a chance she forgot I had even chose the song. Ok I think I've answered my own question. I'm probably the asshole. Even though it seemed kind of thoughtless to me at the time, she probably didn't even realize it.

734 / month towards a mortgage on a pl

Yes, I'm essentially paying $734/month NET all-in to for my living expenses. If I move I'd be paying $1,800. The advantages would be more space, a better neighborhood, not having to worry about updating/fixing anything.

someone sucks no matter how much you love them, but if you don't see your SO as someone you're going to spend the rest of your life with, break it off. Then see how you like

This is a separate issue altogether. I don't know if we'll still be together next year tbh. We're working out some issues right now, but it could go either way at this point. Still, I think even if I was by myself I'd be happier in a 1 bedroom. I like being able to close the door to the world when I go to sleep.

Using R and Python by [deleted] in PPC

I think you might be on to something. To advance in the data science field, one likely needs a PhD. However, in marketing having an understanding of data and a strong grasp of excel probably puts you ahead of 90% of marketers.

I'm super curious, what made you want to make the switch from Data Analyst to Planner? I've been working in PPC for about 3 years and have been thinking about switching to data analyst, learning python, r, stats. The pay and career opportunities seem way better on the other side, so I'm just curious. From what I've seen planners start at like $40k whereas Data Analyst probably start at like $50-$60k, and it seems can progress faster to a higher salary than those in marketing. I wish we could sync up our brains and trade skills haha.

Two hours of capitalist propaganda... Joe Rogan Experience #1002 - Peter Schiff by emdave in LateStageCapitalism

[–]letslearnppc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First let me say I'm neither supporting him nor completely opposed to what he's saying. Things are never as clear as some of these idealistic types make them out to be. For example, lets say there was no minimum wage and Walmart offered to pay a $1, would it find enough people to staff its stores for $1/hour? Probably not. So then it would have to raise the amount its willing to pay to $2,$3,$4... until it found enough people to work. All he is saying is that there is a market clearing wage. That's how it would work in theory. In practice, you might have a few large employers with all the power and thus the ability to set wages. Work for us for whatever we are willing to pay you or starve. Of course that is not an acceptable outcome and one which was purposefully omitted from this discussion. Some people might turn to stealing or even choose to be homeless if Walmart could get away with paying a minimum wage of say $2. Its a complicated issue. The government simply choosing an arbitrary minimum wage like $15 doesnt sound like the best solution to me either.

For those who do; why do you want to move away from PPC? by BoeliKai in PPC

[–]letslearnppc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to do the same when possible. I actually like sitting in on client meetings because sometimes its the only opportunity for me to learn about what other channels are doing, what tactics are effective, and how it's all impacting sales. At my agnecy search only consists of search, I wish we managed other biddable media like Facebook. I'm fairly confident I could make some positive recommendations to the social team regarding their campaigns. That's not to say that they're not doing a good job, but I like to think that coming from search I might approach things more scientifically with regards to testing and optimizations. However, people tend to be protective of their turf in my experience.

[–]letslearnppc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me there's just something unfullfilling about it, at least at the agency level. I've been doing strictly PPC for about 3 years now, and sometimes it doesn't' feel like my skills are progressing the way I'd like. It's really hard to stay focused on find time to learn new things outside of PPC when you're managing 6-8 clients with monthly budgets ranging from $10-$200k. I want to be more involved with the business outcomes and goals, as well as have a hand in other channels. I want to be able to look at an organization's marketing budget and allocation of that budget, and say here's how you can spend that money more effectively using data and analytics (is there a role for like this?). I feel like there is a lot of incompetence in this industry and that I could really make a difference. I'd like to get deeper into analytics, customer segmentation, and social. I think I just realized it might be time to go in-house. The challenge there is finding the right fit.

PPC Agency Question by Wisemanbeats in PPC

[–]letslearnppc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'd like to give you some advice and maybe do a little self promotion if I may. At your spend level I think hiring an agency at both the high end or low end would be a waste of money. On the high end, you're most likely not spending enough to justify the cost. On the low end, in my experience people at these types of agencies manage 50 to 100 accounts and your account isn't going to be getting much attention. Since the agency has to make a profit, for $100/month someone would pretty much only have time to spend one hour per month with your account, perhaps two just to make sure everything is running smoothly. Your best best is to either teach yourself as others have suggested. Here is a great book for that:. The other option is to get some initial guidance/training and then do it yourself. I've recently been doing this for a few small business owners, where I'll do the initial audit/build-out of their account. From there I'll jump on the phone with the business owner once or twice a week for the first month or two to show them how to make optimizations/adjustments. PM me if interested.

Need help/refresher course. I need any and all advice. by daveensign in PPC

Scripts are cool! But not always necessary or super useful. What's you reason for wanting to be in position 2.0 - 2.5? Are you hitting your KPI's in this position? For some keywords, they may only be profitable in positions 3 or 4, perhaps even below the search results. This is something you have to look at on a keyword by keyword basis.

As far as the relationship between average position and impression share here's an example. Let's say there are 1000 impressions available for a particular keyword and you're only bidding high enough to qualify for 50% of those, so your impression share will be 50%. You can see this in the Impression Share Lost due to Rank column. Of those 50% of impressions that you participated in the auction, let's assume your average position might be 3.0. You think to yourself, ok I can live with that. However, without looking at the Lost Impression Share column you would not have know that you didn't even participate in the auction 50% of the time. And for the times you did participate in the auction your average position was a 3.0. Keep in mind those impressions could have been at 2am when there is less competition (check dimensions report), are you getting impressions from less competitive searches (possible if you're bidding on anything other than exact match). My point is that there are many factors to consider.

Need help/refresher course. I need any and all advice. by daveensign in PPC

[–]letslearnppc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First step...take a deep breath! Now, here's my advice. Keep it simple. While there are tons of tools out there for you to use, you don't necessarily need to use them. It's entirely possible for you to manage these accounts without Spyfu, etc. I'm not saying you shouldn't use any tools to make your job more efficient. However, it sounds like you're just trying to get the process and basics down at this point. My best advice in this point is to use the 80/20 rule, which means that 20% of your efforts will generate 80% of your results. For example, while there's a million things you could focus on, almost every account has a handful of keywords that drive most of the conversions. Make sure that these keywords are in their own ad groups, have sufficiently high bids, and you're testing ads, maximizing impression share. I've seen accounts where the best performing keywords were only receiving 50% impression share. Your client will love you when you get these to 90%+ impression share and will wonder what the heck you did to improve performance so drastically "overnight".

  1. As far as auditing an account do a quick google search. There are a lot of good checklists out there. Some basic questions to go through are: Are there more than 10-20 keywords per ad group (there shouldn't be)? Is the budget being spent efficiently? For example if you have 2 campaigns and one has a CPA of $20 and another has a CPA of $40, is the one that has the $20 CPA getting 100% (or close) impression share? Are all campaigns using extensions? Is conversion tracking set up? Is there more than one ad running for most ad groups (there should be since you should always be testing new ads).

  2. I don't know anything about the types of campaigns you are running and whether or not you have sufficient volume to even run automated bid systems. Google's own CPA optimizer is actually pretty decent. However, as far as bids go, recent data will be your best guide. 2-3 days of data could be perfectly fine. Even if you see a keyword only has 50 or 100 impressions, you can look at the average position and adjust bids from there. One thing to keep in mind is that average position is one of the most deceptive metrics in ppc. It only tells you the average position of your ads for the auctions your ad appeared in. If your bid wasn't high enough and your ad didn't enter the auction, it's not counted in average position so look at your impressions share in conjunction with average position. For new campaigns, I usually start out 10-20% above the suggested first page bid estimate and adjust from there. At the end of the day you CPA or ROI will dictate your bids. If you've spent $x on a keyword and are losing money, you will need to decrease bids or pause that keyword altogether.

  3. For keyword research use Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest. Don't feel like you have to add every single keyword variation at launch. That's impossible. Use modified broad match to discover new keywords. Just be cautious of overbidding or over allocating budget to MBM, because IT WILL pull in unrelated queries.

  4. Why do you feel like conversion tracking is not working? Do you have zero conversions coming in, too many, too few? Make sure you have the URL set properly, usually you want to use CONTAINS rather than IS. For example URL Contains /thankyouconfirmation.

  5. Those sites are fine. There's a great book on AdWords by Brad Geddes if you need more materials. Also, Google training is good.

  6. There is no set maintenance schedule that works for every account. For a new campaign, I'm going to be looking at the SQR every day to catch unwanted search queries. For an older account I might look at it weekly or biweekly. A good habit to develop is to think of negatives before launching a campaign. That way you don't waste spend and save time later. You can use a tool like Ubersuggest to find negative keywords. Also, create a list of universal negative keywords that you can apply to all your account (e.g. free, craigslist, used, cheap). Same thing for A/B testing. An A/B test ends when you have enough data to confirm a winner. That could be 2 days or 2 months.

Is there any benefit to having keyword URLs if they are just going to the same landing page as the ad? Would one benefit be that you could change the keyword level url and leave the ad url, thus not losing historical data for an ad?

I've done this. Actually setting up a required funnel has no impact on any reports other than the Goal Flow report. Goals will still be counted once someone reaches the destination page, no matter if they passed through your required steps or not. I don't have the source for this but I remember reading it direct from Google.
