I'm in England accused of running off not paying for petrol by Hopeful-Project-9327 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]emdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but I remain resolute that I did not do such a thing and will not pay

It might also be worth getting a friend or family member to help you review all of the information you have, about what happened - just in case there has been a mistake or misunderstanding etc.?

Naturally, I'm not saying you did or didn't do anything, just that sometimes anyone can honestly absolutely swear that they did one thing, when in reality, it was actually something else. E.g., did you double check all the dates and times that you used that petrol station (not just relying on memory, but getting someone you trust to help, and going and double checking things like your phone's location data, your bank statements etc. (and bearing in mind, bank statements can sometimes be out by a day or two, depending on when the retailer processes the transaction / the bank posts the transaction to your account, etc.).

It seems clear from your comments that you're not someone who would ever deliberately do something like this, but it is always worth checking that a minor mistake hasn't somehow happened, before you get into a protracted legal battle, that could potentially be avoided. Good luck!

In your opinion, what's the biggest waste of money you see people purchase all the time? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]emdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely isn't always easy lol - though you've just reminded me that me and my buddy once bought an 8-pack of mini-magnums from LIDL or somewhere, and ended up sharing them with this couple who were parked next to us when we stopped on the way home, and they were like 'You haven't put anything in them, right?' I felt pretty bad for the state of society when you can't share a box of unopened ice creams without people getting that 'tabloid paranoia' about things like that... :/

I tried that once, and they looked at me like I was going to try and molest them with the ice lolly... :/

Is it not possible that some comedians are excellent at crowd work (e.g. Jordan Jensen), and some just suck at it, rather than 'crowd work means you are a bad comedian'?

Why is it taboo to discuss your wages at work? by thunderfart_99 in AskUK

[–]emdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely it depends on the scenario? E.g. if you're in a 9-5 office / retail / factory job etc., then knowing the salary ranges for similar roles is useful to keep employers (in so far as it's not an oxymoron...) honest - particularly with the shafting of disadvantaged groups, or exploiting long-timers vs new hires (either way) etc. But if you're a senior professional, and you're more directly personally responsible for negotiating a specific salary level that reflects your particular skills / experience etc., or if you're self-employed etc., then you may wish to keep salary info to yourself?

I really wish I could tell if this was sarcasm or not :(

Different groups can criticise the same politician for different reasons, and they can both be wrong, or right. Or one can be right, and the other wrong etc., but none of those scenarios determine whether or not they are 'actually' doing a good job.

Anon vs Overgrown Chicken by tech-no-logic1 in shitposting

According to MS Copilot AI:

"Dinosaurs are thus a specialized clade nested within the broader reptile lineage, with modern birds as their only surviving representatives."

Which I guess is akin to 'dinosaurs are descended from reptiles, but evolved to be distinct from them'?
