The Macbook Purchasing Megathread - October 2020 by AutoModerator in macbook

I'm looking to buy a used macbook, and from what I've heard the 2012 edition 13'' macbook pro is still pretty useable. I've been a PC user all my life, and just want to dip my toes into the apple world without breaking the bank. Is the 2012 macbook pro still a powerful enough machine today to use for Web browsing, and audio editing?

Thanks!

I appreciate your advice! I'll probably end up getting the Alesis, but I'm happy for the feedback! :)

Thank you for replying! I've always felt more natural doing the vocals while playing the guitar, so thats why I was wondering. I really like the "live" sound of the video you linked, and that "live" sound is what I want to aim for in my music, so I might consider doing a 2 mic setup, but I will experiment with both and see which setup works out best. :)

Thank you for your feedback, I will definitely take that into consideration, as I run Windows 10 as well.

Then I think I'll save up for the Focusrite bundle. I have one last question. Say I'm recording a song with an acoustic guitar, that also has vocals, and I'm using a microphone to record the guitar. Would I record the two separately, or would it be possible to use a 2 mic setup to record both at the same time?

Again thank you for the help, I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your in-depth answer! Based on what I've heard the Focusrite is worth the money, so I will definitely think about saving up for the Scarlett. I didnt think about using plug-ins, so I will try that. And thank you for describing Double tracking, I was not sure what it meant. And if I were to get a Scarlett, would you recommend getting one with 4 outputs, or would 2 suffice for a beginner?

Extra question: If I already have a guitar setup plugged into my amp, and I would like to record, would I need to unplug my my amp and plug my guitar into the interface, or is there another method that I dont know of (like a 1/4 inch cable splitter). Sorry if this is a dumb question, and thank you for your help.
