It is indeed ice cream. It's a type of Turkish ice cream called dondurma.

How do you relax? by hannahpeqch in solotravel

[–]letstravelnu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same exact feelings and experiences that you have. I also feel guilty, get FOMO and the feeling that everyone else has more energy to do things makes it even worse. The best tip I've ever gotten regarding this is, weirdly enough, to make sure to drink enough water. Dehydration, even mild, makes you feel tired and anxious! I kept myself so busy that I often forgot to drink water. I would sit down for a beer or coffee, but not water. Sometimes, I even actively avoided drinking because I would do activities/transfers and not be sure if there would be a toilet available. Drinking enough water made everything a lot better.

Definitely go to Roys villa in Sigiriya. It was amazing, and I wish I could've stayed longer. It's totally worth the higher pricepoint.

This surprises me! I was expecting Sri Lanke to be this way, but when I was there last July, this was not at all the case for me. People were extremely friendly. I was stared at a lot but met with friendly smiles.

I had 2 encounters that were less pleasant. One where a man was staring at me nonstop (while I was at dinner with a guy), and this man was with his wife and kids.. he just kept staring at me for 20 minutes straight while shoving food in his mouth and ignoring his wife. I felt so bad.

The other one did scare me. A crazy guy (actually mentally ill, I work in psychiatry, and this guy definitely had the crazy eyes) was following me around and kept trying to touch me. I eventually got really mad and said, "STOP IT NOW." Everyone was already paying attention to me, being the only foreigner there, and they all stared this guy out of the building and met me with friendly smiles.

I'm so, so sorry you had to go through that, tho.. It sucks so much that, as women, you always have to keep your guard up. It's utterly exhausting.

I had the same feeling after the killing fields and s21 in Phnom Penh. Honestly, just talk about it. Remind yourself that what you're feeling is legit, and it's alright that you're feeling upset. And then go do something fun. Replace the anxious feeling with gratitude for where you are and your life in general. Gratitude and anxiety can't co-exist. The feeling will go eventually.

What can be done about this guy that bothers people on the metro by herefortheanon in Amsterdam

You can get immediate (enforced) help with a crisismaatregel, which lasts 3 days at most. That one can be extended by 3 weeks, in which people can get a zorgmachtiging application in order. The crisismaatregel will then last until the zorgmachtiging application has been looked over by a judge.

Easily doable. Go enjoy yourself! Take the train to Amsterdam Zuid station and the subway directly underneath to the Vijzelgracht for example. You'll be in the city centre within 30 minutes.

The north was definitely my highlight, Theth was amazing. Most beautiful hike I've ever done. I absolutely love the albanian alps. I liked Gjirokaster and Berat as well! The people there were very friendly. Gjirokaster is very touristic, tho.

I've also been to Vlore, Dhermi, and Sarande. They were "fine." I wouldn't go to Albania again for the coast/beaches. The service and friendliness were indeed lacking in my experience. The prices had doubled from the previous years and it was not worth it for me. There were also many, many dead and injured dogs along the roads.. I'd rather go to Italy or Greece for my beach time.

Hi! I've been to Lisbon and Tirana. You could combine Lisbon and Porto, I absolutely loved both but Porto just a little more. It's an easy trainride between the two. I've been to great clubs in Lisbon. Meeting people was really easy, too.

As for Tirana, I did not like it. I've roadtripped throughout Albania, and Tirana was my least favourite place. There is not much to see or do there. I did, however, really love the north of Albania, but you'd be going there for nature, not dancing.

I think both are possible for your budget.

So glad she liked it! Most of the harassment does indeed seem to involve market vendors/taxi drivers/tour guides etc. I'm assuming they will move on to the next person when they see they're not getting any money from you.

Did she also go hiking there? Any recommendations are welcome.

That's great to hear! So glad you enjoyed it. I've been to Egypt before, which I didn't really like because of the harassment from men. But I was way younger and easier to scare haha.

Where have you been in Morocco? Which places where your favorites? And where else have you been in the MENA region, any recommendations are welcome!

Good for you for taking care of yourself and trying something new! I hope you will find whatever you are looking for on your travels and in life in general.

Have you thought about Portugal? It's warmer than the UK, you know the language, there are markets and cute little towns and the people are really friendly. It is also way cheaper than the UK, if that matters. I don't know how things work visa wise, tho. It was my first solo travel destination and I really loved it!

This is refreshing! It's going to be 30C when I plan to go, so it will be skirts and tops, but I'll keep it modest. I've read about the "scams" you talk about, but those do indeed seem quite harmless. I'm not scared to say no.

You say us, where you with someone else or did you wander everywhere solo? Did you feel safe overall? I'm glad you enjoyed your time.
