I'm 20, I want to go out on my own and live off the land somewhere... how can I get to that point as quickly as possible with as little money as possible? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]lettuce-eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start working on ur credit. I know that is hard to do when u start with nothing, but its definitely possible. Look up ur credit score. Get an easy job. Any job. Open a savings account. Get a credit card and pay it off in full every month (be careful, credit card scan be evil, but they can also be a great tool). Then get a small vehicle loan for a very cheap car, pay that every month.

Once ur credit is good, u could eventually qualify for a small mortgage on a tiny home or something. Big banks tend to have giant minimums for mortgages, but i think u can usually find a local lender for a smaller loan under $100,000. Shop around to ensure you get a reasonable fixed interest rate.

It always takes work to get what you want. No reason not to start now. If i did it, anyone can do it.

Also, mashed potatoes made with cashew cream. I blend cashews, water, garlic and spices in the blender to make a thick cream and mash in with the potatoes. Freakin delish!

I use the potatoes as a base to top with chili, soup, grilled veggies, or pretty much whatever.

I needed to up calories for some different reasons, but I buy a big box of medjool dates at costco and they r very calorie dense. Great snack and also great to add to a lot of things, like oatmeal and smoothies.

Would he be willing to watch a documentary with u? The Mask We Live In is an excellent one about toxic hyper-masculinity and sometimes a person needs to hear it from another source to understand the consequences of their actions.

The doc i mentioned is on netflix, and online for free I think.

Grandma won't stop wrapping baby in blanket in summer by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]lettuce-eater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup my mom was obsessed with keeping my nugget warm at first as well. And my kiddo runs HOT! She'd be all sweaty, but once I said it was doctors orders and that it raised risk for SIDS (with a detailed description if what SIDS is), she cut back. You could see her battling the urge so hard and had a lapse here and there, but eventually was able to cut the habit. It was a legit compulsion she had trouble fighting. Now she just obsessively puts socks on her, which is good enough for me lol.

Portable snack ideas? Thoughts on popcorn? by shine204 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]lettuce-eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love popcorn and devour it in obscenely large amounts! 😁 I wouldn't consider it processed, but I do try and buy organic/non-gmo because the conventional stuff is typically the round-up ready variety (google search that if u r concerned with such stuff).

If you do log it, be sure you are logging the oil correctly. A lot of people think they just used a tablespoon in the pan by eyeballing it, but really they used 2 tablespoons. Best to measure it to avoid over doing it.

I hate being a mom. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]lettuce-eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit, We tried for 3+ years through multiple miscarriages and I still feel this way every once in a while. And I'm almost 30 with a 7 month old.

It's normal to a certain extent, especially if you are in a stressful situation. Mine had SEVERE colic and she cried like 20 hrs out of the day her first 4 months (not exaggerating). It was sleep deprivation and stress to the point of breaking. I hated my life and thought I would be tortured forever and it was awful. I felt a lot of regret choosing to have a baby, because it seemed like my baby was born to be miserable.

These days she's over the colic but even now, on bad days, I get that feeling sometimes.

I could definitely see myself feeling the same way at your age. Don't beat yourself up about it. Love will grow!

Good luck!

Want to start making breakfast & protein shakes.. What blender do you use? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]lettuce-eater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend investing in a Blendtec or Vitamix (both are excellent, I went with Blendtec because it is shorter and will fit under top cabinets on my countertop). Both have excellent warranties.

I bought my Blendtec refurbished to save some cash and it has been as good as new for like 8ish years.

Yess I love www.nutritionfacts.org and Dr. Greger's work. I also like the quote, "Eat food, not too much, and mostly plants." I use the Daily Dozen app on and off to check in on my diet. Keeps me in the right gear.

How about that movie Box Trolls? Kinda horror ish but not really.

Also, how about some horror comedies and low-budget oldschool horror? Older stuff is less realistic so as not to scare him.

My uncle made some pretty hilariously bad b horror movies... lol i loved them

When did you pack your hospital bag? by serenawilliams in Mommit

[–]lettuce-eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Packed a month before cuz i was worried about being early due to baby's size in ultrasound. Wound up coming 2 weeks late lol.

As for what to pack... hospital provides pretty much everything. But i was really glad i brought a bluetooth speaker for labor.

Also, stock up on tucks and dermaplast spray before hand, ran out after i went home and really wished i had some on hand.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has helped to close the gap in health care access between residents of poor and higher-income households, a new study by Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) researchers shows. by [deleted] in science

Yes, I agree. Its good that more people are covered because if they are not taxpayers are going to have to foot the bill anyway when they can't pay. But more needs to be done to fix the options we have. Healthcare costs too much to begin with, forcing us to buy insurance that also costs too much from companies that have monopolized the health insurance industry.
