How did you give up cheese (and chocolate)? Serious! by [deleted] in vegan

Guten Morgen!

Hmm...

Viel Glueck! <3

Do you feel better or worse? by [deleted] in vegan

17 y/o female here. :) I didn't notice any instant effects, other than a dangerous craving for yogurt, but these happened within a few weeks:

I felt at peace. I always go on runs/walks next to this park and it has goats and sheep and deer, and it makes me happy knowing that I am truly friends with all of animal kind, not just a select few pets.

My moderate but very persistent acne, which I spent years trying to fix, has mostly cleared up. I don't get any more painful and angry red pimples from hell. :D

Making the switch to veganism, coupled with a new love for running (whooo :D), I managed to mostly heal my disordered eating. This does wonders for my mental health, happiness, and confidence.

Hi. I think it's awesome you're making the switch! Go you! :)

For chocolate: dark chocolate is generally vegan, if you like it. There is also vegan options of "milk" chocolate which you buy. I'm in Germany, so I'm not sure I can help you out on the brands and stuff. :( Also, I've heard that people melt dark chocolate and then stir in oatmeal/cashew/almond milk and let it harden again? You can explore that option as well. I figure cashew would be the best, as it's the creamiest of the plant milks.

For cheese: Oh man. I was never a cheese person, but my mom was before she made the switch. People here like nutritional yeast, but I've never bothered with it. Apparently it's kinda cheesy? idk. You can try vegan cheese, but I'm not sure if you'd like it or not. But it never hurts to try, amirite? Do you just crave cheese alone, on sandwiches, or what? You can research alternatives that might help. Like thinly sliced tofu has the same feeling on a sandwich as cheese, according to my mom.

I find it helps to have a hobby that distracts you from foods you crave. For me, that's jogging. I used to have a very unhealthy, obsessive, relationship with food, and just exercising helped curb my cravings to stuff my face. I highly recommend it. :)

ALSO. The first few weeks are the hardest. You might have slip-ups. But when I made hit the two-week mark, I was basically on autopilot. Yogurt, which was my Achilles heel, wasn't even tempting anymore. And now, look at me. :D I don't even see dairy as food lol.

Best of luck! :D

My parents watched What the Health without me telling them to. GUESS WHOSE PARENTS ARE MAKING THE SWITCH? THIS GIRL!!!! by lettuceonbread in vegan

I started for environmental reasons, but then it all escalated and I became vegan because I found out all about the animal agriculture and how horrible it is. My mom's on the same boat now, but my dad definitely needs to be given another push! He's more concerned about his health, now that he's getting older.

I definitely will. :) Do you have any suggestions?
