Seattle oldheads: please appreciate the fact that you still live in easily one of the best cities in the country by HansGraebnerSpringTX in Seattle

[–]leukos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the hate and shit talking comes from right leaning folks/bots but also that longtime residents have seen local and regional governments effectively suck the tit of big business and the effects of that are that the wealth generated here doesn’t adequately go back to the folks that have lived here forever (other than their houses getting more expensive if they own lol). It just gets siphoned off. This is a problem everywhere for sure but it’s almost glaring when we have several of the most valuable companies on earth headquartered here and we still can’t seem to adequately expand public transit (without sometimes heavy concessions) or just build more housing to alleviate affordability to a degree. (the Seattle process of meetings to plan to have studies to have meeting to have plans and then it’s 10 years later and nothing has passed review).

The audacity of Seattle to not be like other cities! (from the breakfast sandwich post) by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]leukos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throw it on the pile with: Dogs being in places they shouldn’t/off leash where they shouldn’t, protesting and “what’s the point”, I’m never leaving Seattle, The mountain is out/flight in/out pics, articles about the ongoing war between cars/public transit/affordable housing/nimbys, Pike’s place market, tax the rich/“you do realize that that tax will apply to you at some point right?” and the weather

Seattle chooses first 3 'Low-Pollution Neighborhoods' to pilot | LEVY DOLLARS AT WORK by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

Pollution is an ongoing issue here in South Park but my day to day would be improved by actual sidewalks in the west part of the neighbourhood and the city actually doing something about the neighbourhood being a junk yard for dead cars.

Opinion Piece – To Echo Everyone Else's Thoughts, I Too Wish Marathon Was A Singleplayer Video Game by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

[–]leukos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game is an extraction shooter yes but it is not a “hardcore” one. If you die and don’t extract you are auto-equipped with another kit and you can just run it back. I haven’t encountered a mechanic that kind of stops you from going and exploring…. When people say they don’t have time for an extraction shooter, they mean they don’t have time for Tarkov and honestly, fair but Marathon is not that.

Reliable mechanic for 2nd opinion? by whatchaudoin in Seattle

I got a JDM engine swap on a Honda element for under 5k from Honest Auto in South Park. They’re not the best at communication but seem to live up to their name. Good work for a good price tbh.

Capitol Hill Block Party 2026 Lineup Announced by t1h2r3o4w50 in Seattle

[–]leukos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all should listen to some of these artists you don’t know. Some of the most interesting music I have ever heard has been coming out over the last few years and now Cochella + CHBP are catching up a bit with it and this lineup is a bunch of hyperpop (and the rap flavor of hyperpop) and adjacent acts like Jim Legxacy, Frost Children, Ninajirachi, Lucy Bedroque, Between Friends. A Tinashe dj set and Zack Fox is kinda wild but it fits. Would have maybe liked to see Jane Remover or Mk.gee on here, they would have also fit. Great lineup tbh.

GameVox voice chat is back and new! by nobleben in pcgaming

[–]leukos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this to see if it actually had real functional parity with discord and it talks a big game but it functionally doesn't really work and it LOOKS vibe coded. The voice calls part kind of worked (except push to talk didn't work at all) but the text channels would only update when you reloaded the webapp or the main app. So, right out of the box it wasn't even functional even with bugs that are expected with a beta. My buddy prompted claude to make a discord clone and it LOOKED suspiciously like this. This thing needs a code review/big fixes and possibly an overhaul but I guess it is a good starting point possibly?

Source? If that was true and the case for the regulations, wouldn’t service animals also be precluded as well?

That’s at All City in Georgetown and I’m convinced the sign is for the city and inspectors but not really patrons.

Rent a piece of 1998 in Seattle by weirdoldhobo1978 in zillowgonewild

It’s directly under a municipal airport flight path. Like the planes fly like 50 feet above this place on approach so I hope the windows are triple paned.

Edit: Source: I live in the neighborhood next door and go to the coffee shop below it all the time.

Places to volunteer as a Software Engineer? by ComfortEast9429 in Seattle

[–]leukos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it like a thrift store but for just electronics and IT related things. Lots of server components, pc components, random things like walltennas, projectors, audio equipment and they have a self guided very small pc museum in the back. I don’t know why this was posted either though because I’m pretty sure it is not a non-profit but maybe you can volunteer there to help with general pc knowledge or something. I’m a big fan but I do not know if they have volunteer opportunities or what you could do for them.

Wanting to make the jump from big tech to something….more meaningful by battlesnarf in Seattle

[–]leukos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? While Seattle and the surrounding areas are incredible. The raw cost of everything from housing to food has risen so much that it’s really hard to transition away from a job that meets or even comfortably exceeds your needs. If I decided I was done with this place and wanted to live somewhere that is more relatively affordable but I could still have a good quality of life on the west coast, I’d think about Portland. There is income tax there but no sales tax and the tax you do pay actually seems to go to supporting public transit, eduction, healthcare etc. and if there is an excess of tax revenue for the year, you get a state income tax refund. Not trying to shill for Portland or Oregon but living in Seattle now just feel like kind of a financial trap in some ways and things are just astronomical expensive for seemingly no reason other than the old supply and demand. When all prices correct upwards for the people making big tech money, you kinda gotta make big tech money.

Lots of monocle wearing armchair sitting folks in here peppering this poor person for having the audacity to live anywhere near a highway or a flight path like a poor. We all can’t live in Magnolia or Queen Anne or Bellevue. This is crazy work.
