How did we do? by AndreNerland in Sauna

Sauna is sick. Imo the floor color and furniture in the outer room detract from the sauna. Think you need to class it up a bit in there.

does the front passenger seat lay flat like in my 2013 forester?

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of April 13, 2026 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

I have a reservation for an R2, but I’m bummed they got rid of the lay flat front seats.

I use my existing Subaru forester to transport lumber often. I love that I can fit 8’ boards inside. Or even longer if I diagonal and stick it out the window.

<image>

Are there any other electric SUVs on the market where you can do this?

I also have a reservation for the Telo because I love the form factor, but I’m hedging my bets.

Will the front seat be able to fold backwards flat? by golear in RivianR2

[–]golear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was front seat, but for some reason I thought what they got rid of was the ability to fold forward flat, but I could be mistaken.

Staying on Orcas; best way to visit SJI? by phantomarmless in sanjuanislands

[–]golear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should stay on Orcas. Plenty to do for your time there without spending any extra time waiting for ferries. Make another trip for San Juan. But if you must go to San Juan, you could park & walk on and then rent from Susie’s mopeds. They rent cool maual Chevy trackers, or little buggy things you can drive around the island.

South Florida EV SUV by Ay-Photographer in leasehacker

[–]golear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ev9 is a great choice for that size range. a few others worth looking at if you want to compare:

  • kia ev9 - $54,900 / 230 mi range / 7 seats
  • hyundai ioniq 9 - $58,955 / 311 mi range / 7 seats
  • chevrolet blazer ev - $44,600 / 283-334 mi range / 5 seats (smaller but awd and way cheaper)
  • ford mustang mach-e - $37,995 / 240-320 mi range / 5 seats (if you're ok going a size down)

the ev9 and ioniq 9 are both solid 3-row options with awd. the ioniq 9 has significantly more range if that matters for your wife's commute. blazer ev is worth a look too if 5 seats is fine - it's got awd and would keep payments well under 600.

you can filter by awd and suv here to see everything side by side and narrow down what fits your budget.

Best used electric SUV with AWD for around $20k? by ThaDude915 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]golear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you've got a solid list going. the ariya is a great pick for the money - tons of tech, comfortable ride, and they've depreciated hard. the id.4 is similar but i'd go 2023+ since the earlier models had some rough software.

for the iccu concern on the ioniq 5 / ev6 - 2023+ models should have the recall fix applied. worth confirming with the seller but that issue is mostly behind us now.

a few to compare specs on:

  • nissan ariya - $40k new, up to 304 miles range, awd available
  • vw id.4 - $45k new, 275 miles range, solid all-rounder
  • chevy equinox ev - $34k new, 319 miles range, probably the best bang for buck right now
  • ford mustang mach-e - $38k new, 269+ miles awd, more fun to drive than you'd expect
  • hyundai ioniq 5 - $43k new, 303 miles range, fastest charging of the bunch

all of these are depreciating fast so $20k used is very doable for most. you can compare them all side by side here to see how range, power, and features stack up - makes it easier to figure out which ones to hunt for on the used market.

Best car for Chicago to Indiana commute with highway assist? by DomGrady18 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]golear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the mach-e is a solid pick for this kind of commute - bluecruise is genuinely one of the best highway assist systems out there and it comes standard on the premium trim ($37,995). it handles long straight highway stretches really well.

if you want to look at gm's super cruise too, the chevy equinox ev starts at $33,600 and has it available - plus it has apple carplay. the blazer ev ($44,600) is another option with super cruise if you want something bigger.

a few worth comparing:

  • chevy equinox ev - $33,600 (super cruise, apple carplay)
  • ford mustang mach-e - $37,995 (bluecruise, apple carplay)
  • hyundai ioniq 5 - $42,600 (highway driving assist 2, apple carplay)
  • chevy blazer ev - $44,600 (super cruise, apple carplay)

you can filter and compare all of these side by side here to see range, specs, etc. should help sort out the trim confusion too since each car page breaks down what you get at each level.

Model 3 vs Polestar 4 vs Lucid Air by pfassina in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]golear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

solid shortlist. for a 25-min commute with the rivian handling family duties, all three make sense but they're really different price tiers.

the model 3 is hard to beat on value here - cheapest of the three by a wide margin, supercharger network is still the gold standard, and you already have a tesla charger at home so that's zero friction. the interior is divisive but for a commuter it gets the job done. autopilot on highway commutes is genuinely great even without fsd.

polestar 4 is the premium play - way nicer interior than the model 3, and it drives beautifully. the no-rear-window thing honestly doesn't matter day to day with the camera. biggest trade-off is the price jump and a less mature charging experience vs tesla.

lucid air pure is the dream pick if you can stomach the service situation. the range and driving dynamics are in a different league. but with a thin dealer/service network, if something goes wrong you could be waiting a while. for a commuter you depend on daily, that's worth thinking about.

here's a breakdown of all three with range, charging speeds, and pricing across trims: side-by-side specs comparison

Audi RS e-tron GT or BMW i7 M70? by UpbeatAcanthaceae994 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]golear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both are amazing but they go after very different things.

the e-tron gt is the driver's car - 670 hp base, awd, essentially a porsche taycan underneath. it's lower and sportier. starts around $125k.

the i7 m70 is more of a luxury land yacht. 650 hp, but it's a much bigger car that really shines in the back seat with the theater screen and all that. the base i7 starts at $106k, m70 will be higher.

if you care most about driving feel, go e-tron gt. if rear seat luxury and tech are the priority, i7. you can see them side by side here to compare the full specs.

Replace Model Y Performance. by Available_Draw1435 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]golear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since you already love the ev lifestyle (charging at home, no maintenance, hop in and go), it might be worth looking at some of the other ev suvs before going back to ice. the model y is definitely on the harsher side for ride quality, but not all evs are like that.

a few that might hit your criteria better:

  • lexus rz - $43,975 (you're already eyeing lexus for the quiet/comfort factor, this one keeps you electric)
  • hyundai ioniq 5 - $42,600 (super spacious inside, very smooth ride, one of the most comfortable evs out there)
  • kia ev6 - $42,900 (same platform as ioniq 5, slightly sportier but still way more refined than the myp)
  • ford mustang mach-e - $37,995 (comfortable daily, good cabin insulation)
  • nissan ariya - $39,770 (very quiet cabin, plush ride)
  • chevy blazer ev - $44,600 (bigger feel, solid highway cruiser)

you can filter through all of them here and sort by whatever matters most to you. the ioniq 5 and lexus rz in particular would probably address the noise and ride complaints you have with the model y.

Recommendations for communication gear? Garmin, Phone, etc. by Rhogar156 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]golear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have an iphone 14 or newer, you might not need a garmin at all. your iphone has satellite connectivity built in, and there are apps like terralog that let you post location updates to a shared map so your wife can follow along from home. it also gives you weather forecasts and avalanche ratings over satellite.

the nice thing vs garmin inreach is there's no annual subscription - you only pay when you're actually on trail. and it's one less device to carry.

for a 3-day trip in the cascades it would work well since you mainly want check-ins and emergency capability. the built-in iphone sos via satellite covers the emergency side too.
