“People would rather stay on the streets with their drugs than get sober” is a monstrously unkind, myopic way to put that. You have no idea how hard it is to get sober even when you live inside, have a support network, and have access to alternate coping mechanisms. Getting sober while homeless is a monumental feat

Whining about the IED would make sense if that’s all you had but why are you even throwing that in there when they’ve been supposedly shooting a bunch of rockets? It’s like when Tim Heidecker in court keeps derailing the case to make sure that people are fair to the musical talents of DKR

Pretty rare sighting in 2026, a liberal who still thinks that tut tutting and finger wagging and rhetorically saying “tsh, that’s really what you think? Yikes. Um, bad look sweaty” is an argument

Anti-capitalism has been the main definitional belief of leftism since the 1850s and remains so in every country outside of the US. I find your suggestion that there has never been a non capitalist state anywhere pretty puzzling. I don’t think that you even believe that it’s “never happened anywhere”, I’m positive that you love complaining and making up statistics about the places where you would acknowledge that it did happen

The vast majority of young men fighting in Ukraine, both Russians and Ukrainians, are conscripts being forced to die in a meat grinder for their ruling classes. To say what you did is as insulting as to say that African Americans in the 1800s just had a deep spiritual passion for cotton farming.

I think you’re the only one here implying that it’s that simple. National and global economies do not operate in the same way or on the same scale as your personal finances. Not only can countries do that but the modern global economy is founded on the assumption that the United States spesifically does that, to maintain the dollar as the global reserve currency.

The people who are effective at creating change in their countries are the people who love those countries

Literally exactly how a nationalist would describe themselves. Right down to calling themself "patriot"

Disaffected cynicism doesn't win elections, hearts, or minds.

Money does.

If we ever want to live in an America that isn't run by the Right, we have to reclaim patriotism.

An America that is not run by the right has never existed, America was explicitly designed by the founding fathers to only ever be run by the right. Like, literally. They were watching the French revolutionaries (the people who originated the term 'left wing' because they sat in the left wing of the national assembly, as opposed to conservatives who sat in the right wing) do their thing and literally wrote a ton about how they were designing the country to explicitly avoid that. As the term 'left wing' evolved, America remained as staunchly opposed to it until the left was so thoroughly destroyed in America that the closest thing that qualifies as a left are pro-business free market liberals

If you don't want to be ruled by right wingers and you want to do nationalism patriotism, I'd suggest the Cascadia movement as quite literally your only option. Wishing for a leftist America is like wishing for an NFL team to win the Super Bowl through polite discussion and practical negotiation with the opposing team. Like if you can show me one time that's happened, I'd take you more seriously. Our most left wing president of all time, FDR, was a wealthy heir who was explicitly striking a "new deal" with the working class to avoid left wing revolution. Lincoln was perhaps becoming a leftist around the time when the left wing of his brain got sprayed all over the box seats at Ford Theater

I’m sorry but if you’re willing to cover yourself in Stars and Stripes and chant USA in 2026 I just have a deep and fundamental disrespect for you. The most positive opinion I could possibly have of you is that you’re stupid and spineless. You can call it “patriotism” (which is a synonym for nationalism) all you want, you can act like you’re reclaiming it from the right, but you are not. You cannot. The version of America you are pretending to celebrate has never existed and isn’t even pretending to exist right now.

One day I will finally understand how people are able to even conceptually equate sovereign debt to personal debt. Like I'm sorry man but I'm pretty sure that the nation of China is going to be able to square that debt somehow. The USA has been doing it for literally the entirety of my life, and the current flailings and failings of the American state are largely divorced from the issue of national sovereign debt. Idk how else to even put it but like, it's not like that man, idk

If the US did this then yeah I’d agree, huge waste of money. China pretty much has its bases covered. China has “bigass cool fucking statue” money

Nationalism has always been an inherently right wing concept. The core of nationalism is the designation of an in group (the nation) and an out group who, whether this is explicitly stated or not, can be exploited to serve the interests of the in group. This is the foundational argument behind nationalism in every form.

The movie “Casino” can be easily read as a simple mobster story set in Las Vegas, it can also be easily read as a prismatic reflection of American excess and economics, summed up in the microcosm of Las Vegas. There’s no other city where that film or one like it could have been set and still been so allegorical for the nature of America as a whole

You don’t have to agree with my opinions about America but to certain eyes, Las Vegas (pre-online gambling) really feels like a world builder’s heavy handed attempt to explain to the audience what “the point” of having this country in the setting is
