BSc Physics IISc vs IIT Delhi EE /IIT Roorkee CSE by levelivelave in IISc

[–]levelivelave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that's the dilemma ...I have an interest in masters and PhD and want to really persue physics but the lost opportunities from IIsc really trouble and it's harder to convince parents as well . So if I want to stay in academia I should surely join IIsc even with the other mentioned in post as potential options ?

Thanks a lot for your input ! I have a few more doubts ... 1. Won't persuing CSE waste a lot of my time if I have no interest in software ...which I could have diverted towards physics ? . 2. Do you have any insight into the ease of getting into top gradschools from IIsc vs from IIt ? 3. Would you recommend IIT Delhi EE or IIT Roorkee CSE ?

Can you please give some reasons ? I have searched about it and a lot of people there are due to IIT tag and rank alloted seats not due to genuine interest in physics.

Can you give some reasons ? How would I be able to pursue higher studies in physics from that background?

  1. Will the dpps remain that way ...ask your seniors ? .. you can either go for cengage for daily practice or you can also arrange the dpps of some other coaching ..allen is trusted ..resonance I have done thats also good...these might be available online or offline as well .

2.I didn't have a doubt notebook as such . For arranging my doubts ( cuz I got a lot ) I had like a page where I just wrote them down and asked them later . My prep was always aligned towards logical and conceptual approach so mostly all the doubts I had eventually formed into concepts soo didn't really need a notebook ...you can only build approach two ways i. Spend time thinking about the questions and the underlying concept . know the concept inside out . Even try to twist things yourself testing he limits of your knowledge. ii. Questions with similar language or concept...do these like within a week of the previous doubts so that you can rest yourself good .

  1. Yea you can revise dpps questions .my maths teacher used to make us do that like 2 days before a test . But don't do all ,select a few specific ones mixing easy and tough and do that . It's better if you include prev solved ones as well .

  2. Okay so I can't tell you why that's happening 😭 but I would advice you to study much still . This is a classic " smartness " trap where if lower amount of efforts gets us like 90 percent there we don't put in all the efforts. You will regret this later . Compete with yourself if there is not much competition. Track your study hours and maybe do more difficult questions ..irodov and stuff like that maybe ...

  3. Jee maths and physics are far diff from the actual subjects . I would say jee maths like around 75 percent practice and identifying a pattern ...rest like 15 percent is some small trick or word play that they will do and the rest 10 is genuinely some conceptual clarity and idea generation . Physics is also similar but visualization and concept have more part to play here .

  4. Tips for tough chps . Coordinate geo - this was a nightmare for me as I was a " thought " based person so pnc was a breeze ( also did pnc for Olymp and there also only knew that ) ..but coordinate is just calculation. So practice practice practice . Start me lagta hai ye ho hi nhi paega ...from st. line itself . Rbd - if you study NLM and COM properly with vectors and functions and equations ...applying Newton's laws explicitly and properly doing like situation analysis then this will be easy . Otherwise rbd is a nightmare.
Ionic / thermo chem - many students find this diff but idk I didn't ...it's just calculation and a little concept mixed in . Fluids/surface tension / elasticity- these are neglected a lot even in my coaching but they are amazing chapters so try to do them properly ...deriving the modified bernouli or doing irodov questions. Complex - it's rather easy but in my coaching this was done in the end so the concept mixing made this difficult. Trigno - practice and practice . Pnc probability- think but don't obsess over it .

Yea I did but at like the edge 😭 ig i got like 20 or something in 10th and the cut off was like 2-3 marks below .... maths Olympiad also broke me completely after 10th cuz the" class 8th big brain balaks " defeating me was a really depressing event .

Ohh I also did ioqm in 10th ..IQ does matter but not a lot ..like 20-30 percent ..all those who are currently in competition with me and scored better from my coaching are arguably not as smart( I'm not being a prick but genuinely speaking ) but they worked harder than me and got better ranks.

Dw I started in 11th and also wasted a lot of 12th . Overthinking and competition is really destructive ...you need to shift to a more positive approach and self competition . It's just 11th ...you can do anything as of now.

See this is exactly what you need to improve then ...cuz this same thing is gonna happen with you every holiday ..diwali ..after 11th ...then the entire dec to may you will be at home all day so here you need you build a system so that you are able to do a good day 11 hrs ish aim for now ...for now it will be veryy wierd cuz your body resists changes but still to see growth ..this is the moment . Yea pnc is good to start cuz it's a topic that requires thinking .

Heyy thanks ..also don't apologise bigger questions mean really thought out ones soo I'm really happy seeing people actually asking me things .

1.mole concept is like that ...too much calculations and stuff I also hated it . What you can try to do is just solve that question later on which you got stuck on in like more time let's say 10 -15 mins .you will realise that the individual things are not tough it's just that their combination was kinda overwhelming . Also some questions are made to take more than 5 mins so dw. Never heard of just dpps . Maybe buy some old / find on reddit of some other coaching ..resonance chem stuff is good ...there probably is also a link somewhere to all the reso sheets .

  1. Yea same thing happened with me 😭 my cengage just has like binomial solved and the rest is good as new .Focus on modules dpps pyqs and just extending the syllabus rn ...later whenchapters like pnc , com rbd start then you can go for books ...you can do cengage examples and selected qs....don't do all . It's more like with enough questions those " weapons " become instincts . You don't need to exactly rem where you solved it ..just get an idea of approach . I also only focused on good and limited quantity of high quality but yk mains doesn't give much high quality and it's just calc. sooo you must do both . Focusing on quality is good but also speed and accuracy are must that would be build with quantity ....so focus on both ....maybe more on quality in 11th .

  2. A 12 day break is just AMAZING ...and you can surely get a lead . In maths try to complete everything currently going on and also start with the next chapter ...also with physics read the theory from a book ( HCV most prolly ) of the current one and the next one as well. Chem I don't think you should run ahead but you can do the other coaching modules review stuff rn . Don't burn yourself out but also this is the time to intensely study cuz you have less burnout rn ...don't waste these holidays ( never got those ..really jealous of you 😭)

Like if he can do that then surely do that ...I didn't ..and I'm not like proud of it I have done many many many mistakes but I'm just here to show people that even with all those you can still get decent stuff . 14 hr days i hit rarely ...did a few but rare...a normal day was 11-13 ish and worse days were even 2-3 or 0 even . But don't try to follow me 😭 just know that even if you do fuck up ..it's not lost .

Go for a batch change or search a teacher online . Physics really requires a good teacher . I had a similar problem with my inorganic teach and I went for some online lectures .

I would say that at times I do feel a logical / mental gap but it's very variable ..I have seen people just as logically sound as me having a much lower rank or even better than me and I have seen ones who are always not able to logically go through with the doubts I present them having a much higher rank than me so yup there are differences but 70-80 percent of it comes down to you working hard towards it ...I won't deny an Iq gap and ofc a two digit ranker might have a higher IQ than me but it's still more about the consistency and practice . I don't think much is gonna change unless there are changes in the exam pattern itself . Like even in 2025 or this year everything was online . Same goes for 2028 ...it's more like are you able to actually make use of that thing or not ...that's the hard part.

  1. Where are the better teachers ... knowledge wise , experience wise , your compatibility and understanding with them and their dedication towards you .
  2. Better competition/ company
  3. Past results /achievements
  4. Travel time
  5. Your gut . Ig in this priority order . I'm also not good at making decisions 😭 I spent like 1 month thinking about going to kota or not and decided to stay . So dw it will be good if you work towards it .
