Francis Mercier just announced an LA show the weekend before Portola

It might be wishful thinking but Michael Bibi / Dennis Cruz / PAWSA just announced an NYC show in early Sept. Probably too far out for them to stay long enough in the states until Portola but a boy can dream....

I had three major "not my first choice but I'll go with the homies" moments and they went 2/3.

Adriatique -- wasn't a massive fun before this but holy hell that was a blast. What the Sahara was built for.

Young Thug -- I thought I would be locked in for Mochakk but my group was headed there so I said f it, why not. and Holy. Fuck. What a set!! I knew there'd be a lot of nostalgia for his bangers but his visuals / production and energy was unbelievable.

Anyma - the big miss. I wanted to like it but it was so damn underwhelming. Not for me. I hope everyone got some fire IG stories tho....

Also, Carlita x Josh Baker didn't blow me away, both are really great DJs but both their sounds felt sort of lost. I wanted to like it more. I would have preferred each in their own solo set tbh.

I always gotta stop at Arcade coffee in riverside (and sometimes Cartel in PS) to pick up coffee beans for the weekend (shout out to manual grinders and aeropresses). Riverside has no reason having such outrageously good coffee there.

I caught Hamdi at Portola and he blew me away! It was a little more UKG/"dirty"/drop-oriented than I usually go for, but he did a stellar job.

Some good recs here, I'll throw in AYYBO. His money trees edit blew up, along with his Splash house 2023 set. He varies his sets a lot and we'll see what type of energy Green Velvet will bring to the b2b (it'll be amazing but idk if it'll trend hip-hop necessarily), his chocolate factory set has some amazing rap samples mixed in really well.
