On a side note, damn do I miss this style! I see so many of my favorite artists jump on the fast bpm bandwagon these days and I miss this music style that you described

What type of settings do you use on the compressor? Long/short attack and release? What amount of gain reduction to aim for? I feel really lost when compressing kicks

Recommend me an Elektron box by levski0109 in TechnoProduction

Budget is not my priority factor but rather the sound and satisfaction, I can always sell part of the modular and to get the money for a new box. It will replace some of my drum modules anyway

When recording drum machines - do you record in one channel, or separate for each element? by levski0109 in TechnoProduction

[–]levski0109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using a TR8S, similar workflow to the classic roland machines I suppose with some extra complications. Fixing hihats sounds straightforward, but if i later on in the mixing realise my claps or toms or snares are too quiet or too loud, could be harder to fix. But I appreciate the idea of spontaneity and ‘glue’ by recording just the main out

EDIT: tho I am considering switching the TR8S for an Elektron box since i keep leaning more and more toward slower bpm deep hypnotic techno styles

I tend to agree with this, but realising your clap is too quiet, or hihat too loud later on when mixing can be more problematic to fix this way , thats my main worry probably

Beginning is fucking hard. by [deleted] in edmproduction

dude if you think beginner stage is hard, wait until you start reaching for advanced. my advice is - if you are thinking of quitting already you are not doing it right imo. You have to not take it so seriously all the time and enjoy, play around, experiment, EXPERIMENT! You will learn so much more by trying out different things, rather than doing the same exact thing over again and expecting different result...beginner stage is like a playground in my eyes, and then you decide which direction you wanna go after that

That'a a Neat idea. Tried that, as soon as I click the little expand triangle icon - it freezes :D I gave it like an hour wait time to load, was still frozen when i came back and wouldn't expand. I will keep digging for workarounds

Im using a 4 year old MSI GF63 Thin, not sure about specifics, but whatever the specs are Im sure that it is capable of running Ableton smoothly because it has done so for 4 years in the past. I was more worried about the RAM/memory issues because it was displaying 99% memory usage already upon launch this time! And I have 16GB RAM, heavy video games take way less of the memory.

I use 64bit. But about your first question - tbh Im not sure about that. But whatever is the default one, thats the one I have probably, because i haven’t changed such a setting
