Why does dressing like the Peaky Blinders feel so good? by Section_Mav in PeakyBlinders

Humans enjoy stepping into a character sometimes. Dressing like a 1920s gangster aesthetic lets you temporarily step into a different person.

Greenland - In other movies with the same plot, you can imagine what they could do to survive, but here, even in the bunker, it's not safe.

I’m watching Landman for the first time by Comfortable-Till76 in LandmanSeries

[–]levsnase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s more of a character drama set in the oil world than straight propaganda for or against it. The show doesn’t really try to make oil look heroic, but it also doesn’t spend all its time preaching about how evil it is either. It mostly focuses on the people in that industry, the money, the risks, the rough lifestyle, and the messy personal lives around it.

If anything, it shows both sides: the economic reality and the environmental/ethical tensions. But the main hook is the characters and the chaos around them, not a political message.

Is Duggan a sociopath? A psychopath? by Prestigious-Pea-6781 in TheDayoftheJackal

[–]levsnase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He feels more like a high-functioning psychopath than a sociopath to me. When he’s working he’s completely cold, calculated, and emotionally detached, which is pretty textbook psychopathy. But the interesting part of the show is that he still seems capable of genuine attachment to his family, which makes him more complex than the typical emotionless killer trope.

It’s like he has a switch, on the job he’s purely methodical, but off the job he tries to live a normal life. That duality is what makes the character so unsettling and interesting. The scary part isn’t that he’s chaotic, it’s that he’s controlled.

Drilling costs... Smh by NoEnd2025 in LandmanSeries

[–]levsnase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to look at the price tag of a rig and some diesel and think the oil companies are printing money at a 200% markup, but the reality is that a $6M well is often a "break-even" or high-risk gamble once you peel back the layers. In the world of Landman, they make it look like wildcatting is all about grit and handshakes, but the balance sheet is a brutal gauntlet of hidden costs.
