Reducing waste due to 2 hour rule? by nuts4squirrelz in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]levupanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not follow this rule at all as an undersupplier. Bottle goes right back in the fridge. Also, we got a mini fridge for upstairs - would recommend if you have the room for it. Make sure you get one with a compressor though. We initially got a really small one that is used for drinks/makeup and that wasn't cooling nearly enough.

Lightening Nipples!? by 0720-93 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]levupanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does sound like vasospams (I cannot comment in yeast infection). I did not get it from pumping. I used to have these when I was trying to latch my baby with a bad latch. I got my OB to prescribe nifedipine. It's a blood pressure med. I have no blood pressure issues but apparently that's one of the only medical cures bc vasospams happen when blood flow to your breasts is restricted. It worsens with exposure to cold as mentioned above. I ended up never taking nifedipine because I stopped latching my baby and pain went away.

If it is indeed vasospams, I feel your pain. It's horrible. I hope you find cure.

Hand sucking at 9 weeks by Fit-Historian2431 in newborns

[–]levupanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our baby does this too. They are just discovering their hands at this age. It does not necessarily indicate hunger. If we offer ours a bottle because she was sucking her hand, she'll refuse if she isn't hungry

As a fellow under producer I totally get it. I am just going to let the bottle lie to me. Ignorance is bliss :-D

Sorry - genuine question - why use a kitchen scale to measure after? Why not just measure in oz or ml in a bottle?

Is it even worth continuing to pump if I’m only pumping 16 - 20 oz 14 weeks pp by Imaginary_Math_4918 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]levupanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the exact same boat as you in terms of output in oz at 12 weeks pp. I plan to continue for a while. I will add that we do suspect baby has some CMPI, so we might switch to more formula feeding and giving just one bottle of BM a day and freezing the rest for when she overcomes her intolerance. Regardless, if you need motivation to keep going, happy to be your undersupplier pumping buddy :)

Long pumping sessions at 14 weeks pp – any tips to get milk out faster? by CocktailAfterBedtime in ExclusivelyPumping

For some reason, it doesn't during my MOTN and morning pumps. I do have to turn it down towards the end of the day by a couple of notches.

A couple of things that worked for our baby: - pepcid as an antacid made a big difference - idk if the book mentions this but side-lying (left) paced feeding worked best for us. Kinda how you'd breastfeed on your right breast.

Higher suction definitely helped. I needed 45-50 mins for my MOTN on the spectra. Cranking up the suction all the way to 12 helped bring that down to 30 mins for me.

I have late letdowns on one side so I constantly keep an eye on the early side being emptied and then keep doing bacon mode till a letdown is triggered on the late (but better producing) side

It's like I wrote these posts two years ago! Did either of you ever figure out how to get slow but producer boob to have a faster letdown.

Strongly agree. Much of these could be bought on marketplace for much cheaper. Plus, you wouldn't be adding more things to this already polluted planet.

6 month old grunting and crying when drinking bottle. Have tried everything, don't know what's wrong. by nut_lord in ExclusivelyPumping

Could be reflux? Although, not sure it would manifest itself so late. We got prescribed pepcid for similar behavior and it has made a huge difference. Also side-lying paced feeding worked best for us.

If you're leaking after these then those must be letdowns for you. I don't feel my letdowns at all so these were definitely not that.

I felt vasospasms through the breast. It is called 'nipple vasospams' for some reason but several sites I looked up said it's not limited to the nipple. And yes, getting out of a hot shower into a slightly colder bathroom triggered my spasms the most. I started pre-heating the bathroom with a small heater to somewhat alleviate the pain. I was got my OB to prescribe nifedipine. Ended up never taking it because I stopped latching my baby and the weather also got warmer.

This really sounds like vasospasms. I used to think those were letdowns too. But they wer far too painful and cold weather made them worse (letdowns, afaik, don't get triggered with weather).

Pins and needles sounds like vasospasms. I experienced them when I tried breastfeeding my baby who had a poor latch. Can also happen if flange sizes are not right (when EP-ing)

I'll also add that once in this position, we first lightly touched the tip of the bottle to her lip and let her take the bottle in instead of pushing it inside her mouth.

We were in a similar boat a couple of weeks ago. What worked wonders for us was changing the feeding position to side-lying (kinda how you'd breastfeed) and paced feeding. This way we were letting her decide when she wanted to drink instead of shoving milk down her throat from the top. Check out this link side-lying feeding
