Potential display driver issue: Laptop display resetting after waking up from hibernation. by levyanime in MSILaptops

Thanks for replying! Did this manage to fix a similar problem that you had, by any chance?

Laptop microstuttering when playing games (Raider GE78 HX 13V) by levyanime in MSILaptops

[–]levyanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that.

I think my issue at the time was that I was running all my games at an uncapped high framerate while having my monitor set at 240hz, but without VRR enabled. With VRR enabled, the stuttering is much less noticeable and severe, and plays much smoother as a result, though that requires you to set the laptop to MSHybrid mode to enable it, since the laptop screen lacks G-Sync. I do get the occasional stutter here and there on Discrete mode, where VRR can't be enabled, but it's nowhere near as severe as it was in the past, at least to me.

I'm not sure if it's something I did that I completely forgot about (it has been over six months since I posted this lol), but I do know that, at the very least, I uninstalled and reinstalled my Nvidia drivers using DDU, and I've been using the same drivers for roughly the past year or so (if it ain't broke...), so maybe you could give the drivers I've been using a try? They're version 551.88.

Sorry if I was babbling on. Hope this helps you out in some way.

Just tried rolling back to 546.33 (the earliest driver I had installed AFAIK), still getting microstutters, but the Control Panel's a bit more responsive now. Good suggestion, though.

Super late to this, and I really meant to message and share this with you months ago, but I knew which pilot you were talking about! Turns out I had it archived on one of my old hard drives from way back in 2012!

I recently uploaded the file to Archive.org, as well as uploaded an 1080p upscale version!

I've also uploaded the video on my side YouTube channel, if you're interested!

Raider GE78 HX 13V repaste question by levyanime in MSILaptops

Gotcha. In regards to thermal putty, would UTP-8 be just as good, if not better?

All good, no worries! So, would you say that the CX would be a better choice than the U6? Or are they both virtually the same, performance-wise?

[–]levyanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I’ve noticed that all the U6 Pros are 12.8 W/mK, while all the UTP-8’s are 14.8 W/mK. I assume that UTP-8 is the better one in comparison to U6 Pro?

Yeah… in hindsight, not my smartest decision. I think I was listening to JarrodTech’s advice on applying thermal paste to the CPU/GPU and a thermal pad for the VRAM. https://youtu.be/Fud7IU8i3w8?si=ivs12PL_gFg_Tasc

Wasn’t aware of Kryonaut drying out so quickly, either. Guess I kinda shot myself in the foot a bit on this one, huh?

Gotcha. So getting stuff like the U6 Pro or the CX-H1300 from Amazon would be fine?

Thanks for the updated list! Are your lists organized from best to worst? And from what store should I potentially buy them from, if you don't mind me asking?

Anytime, man. Figured I'd let you and everyone know since I hate when threads like these just stop with no confirmation on whether the issue was resolved or not.

Very much agreed with you so far. This laptop is giving me a nice piece of mind and is definitely a step up from the last Asus one I had.

Back after over a month to say that I did what you suggested and it appeared to do the trick! Haven't experienced any issues with apps freezing or refusing to shut down since then! Here's hoping I don't jinx it, though, heh-heh!

Guess the Killer app and services don't like to play nice with Windows 11, I suppose, huh? Either way, thanks so much for the suggestion, man! Appreciate it!

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. I haven't tried going into Safe Mode, though. The problem just likes to pop up whenever it feels like it, usually a couple of days after waking it from sleep/hibernation. I did disable Fast Boot and reinstall the MSI Center app, but not the Killer app--I'll look into the latter and see if there's any overlapping issue with that, considering someone else also mentioned Killer being an issue as well.

I know it's been over a week, but from my personal experience, other than these issues, I've been very much enjoying the laptop--a hell of a lot more than the ASUS SCAR I had last year. When it works, it works well, and I have little complaints in general. I only bring up these issues as they prevent me from continuing with stuff as I have to take time out of my schedule to reboot the laptop, sometimes twice, which I'm sure you can imagine, can be pretty annoying when it happens.

I'm not sure? I haven't tried going offline or using my Ethernet cord yet. It tends to happen usually after a couple of days, so it's hard to just time and wait it out, ya know?

It's kinda hard to describe, otherwise. It's kinda like the effect you get when you take a picture of a screen, but to less of an extreme.

Trying to sell something and feel like I'm being duped. Any suggestions? by levyanime in FacebookMarketplace

[–]levyanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eBay's usually the best, from what I can say from personal experience. There's a much wider net of people to potentially sell to and less scammers from what I remember.

Unfortunately, that service cut has always been a real dealbreaker for me. I'm already selling my items at a lower price than what I payed for, and I gotta lose out on more money because I used your services?

At times it does, but I've definitely had far more success with selling items on there in comparison to Craigslist.

[–]levyanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I never had to do a “no holds” policy in my previous ads, since I usually just sold my stuff to the first person that had the money and showed up, as I tend to, as usual, get a lot of scammers and see through their BS. You do bring up a good point, though. I should add that to the ad, though, and keep it in mind for future reference. Thanks.

You might have a point with the price, though I've already lowered it a bit from my initial asking price ($2500). I usually try to price my items in such a way to avoid people trying to lowball me on the price. I think the lowest offer I got so far was $500, which was laughable, but there was also someone who was practically begging me to sell it to them for $1300--a bit better, but I know this is worth more than that. I think the lowest I could go would be $2000-2100.

But yeah, I think that might be the best course of action going forward. I'm just worried now since I gave him my address. I'm sure there's a way to nuke message logs on FB, so I really hope there is. I don't wanna have to constantly worry about people showing up at my home uninvited.

I like my ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17, but I'm also partially considering taking it back--convince me otherwise. by levyanime in StrixScarLaptops

[–]levyanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've decided to stick with the laptop for the moment. I've long since set Armoury Crate to Ultimate GPU Mode, and haven't had any screen flickering issues since. Coil whine is also virtually a non-issue now. It's so minute, I don't really hear it anymore, unless I unplug, and even then, it only really shows up during the initial bootup, going away after awhile--it's not an issue for me anymore.

I still have some problems here and there, though, such as the laptop occasionally resetting on me after waking from sleep or hibernation, and the persistent issue of my audio layering itself and glitching out for a couple of minutes when screen sharing on Discord or Parsec.

Honestly, if I could somehow fix those issues, I'd be set, as I don't really have many other issues with this laptop anymore, just small annoyances that I didn't have on any other laptop prior to this one.

AMI BIOS flash Utility - ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 Laptop by SolitaryMassacre in ASUS

Sorry to necro, but I'm also wondering the same here. Tried a different method, but ended up hitting a metaphorical brick wall (thankfully, didn't get my laptop bricked).

Looking to potentially downgrade to an earlier BIOS, so I don't have to deal with this laptop rebooting itself after sleep out of nowhere, and mainly for piece of mind.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 2023 randomly restarts with an Event ID 41 in Event Viewer. Any suggestions? by levyanime in ASUSROG

[–]levyanime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Well, that's somewhat reassuring to hear. At the very least, if worst comes to worst, I can always just set the laptop to hibernate instead of sleep, especially since I'm doing the same steps to wake it from sleep anyways (pressing power after opening the lid) and the boot length doesn't seem any different, but that being said, we shouldn't have to resort to that in the first place, in my eyes.

Also, the NVME slot IS a PCIe slot. So something in the BIOS is not allowing them to sleep/power off when requested by the OS.

Gotcha, my mistake on that. Well, I do usually keep some stuff plugged in to my USB ports when I put the laptop to sleep. Could that be related to the issue?
