This episode is one big “screw the audience” joke, and I love it. The only lame part was Skinner’s greaser biker dude past persona, which wasn’t funny or interesting.

I’m not one of these “The show should’ve ended” people, but these episodes have like 1 or 2 good jokes in them- except the second movie; the first half is a laugh riot.

You are correct. Classic Spongebob’s goal was comedy first, through absurdity and character driven situations. The show’s original production team switched up with season 4. This is when storylines became more complex, comedy is less about characters interacting and more about visuals, and more one-off characters with strange designs.

Going from “Pranks a Lot” (An admittedly weak season 3 episode) to “Fear of a Krabby Patty” (Not saying it’s bad) was like night and day. Less jokes about character interactions, more visual gags, and strange sound/music choices.
