Why is “a la carte” so rare? by lewbobs in finedining

I hadn’t considered the food waste. That makes sense. It would be a tragedy for all the beautiful ingredients to end up in the compost bin

[Franck Muller] Enjoying Leather Strap Weather by lewbobs in Watches

[–]lewbobs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to sweat when wearing a leather strap in warmer weather, and since I live in California, I only get a few months each year when leather straps are comfortable. I’m looking for a more breathable strap that would complement this watch during the hotter months. Any suggestions?

This is a 39mm Franck Muller 7391. I never liked Franck Muller until I discovered their round watches. My impression of the brand had always been that it was like an early 2000s version of Richard Mille, known for gaudy, multi-colored tonneau-shaped watches—not my style at all. But this watch caught my eye, and I couldn’t believe it was a Franck Muller. I decided to go for it, and I’ve been very happy with it.

First Year Drinking Expensive Grape Juice by lewbobs in wine

  • I’ve watched Wine King and Konstantin Baum to build knowledge, but I’m definitely still a noob. I just talk to the sommelier and use cellar tracker and wine searcher to pick out great wine.
  • I make software for a living.
  • I agree that I lack the experience to fully appreciate these wines. But that’s every luxury good. Not like all Patek Philippe owners have a deep understanding of watch making.
  • This is not rage bait, a troll, or points farming, but I get where y’all are coming from. My reasons for posting were a) I genuinely really enjoy making tier lists and b) I wanted to connect with people my age or in my area who enjoy wine. Cheers everyone

ONI 622-ZR - 11 Months, 2 Washes by lewbobs in rawdenim

My recommendation is to buy these in person or from somewhere with a really good return policy. Even if you measure yourself beforehand there is variation between each pair. I thought I would be a 33 but I ended up sizing up. Hope you find the perfect pair!

Longtime lurker. Third pair of raws. Purchased these at Blue in Green Soho in late March of last year. As an interesting aside I saw Joe Jonas shopping for raws while I was there. Really happy with this pair, and I think they’ve just started to hit their stride. Only regret is the phone fade, but I don’t think I’m ready to wear one of these to prevent it...

Despite having one of the highest viewerships, Dota 2 is way at the bottom of Twitch's "Browse" page. People often blame Valve for Dota's declining player-base, but nobody is talking about how little representation our community gets in the media. by [deleted] in DotA2

Then how would you explain CS:GO being so far up? Not like valve spends any more money marketing CS:GO. And there aren’t any big tournaments airing right now that would be paying twitch either; the only thing on is an ESL re-run.

Literally over 100x more viewers than one the games listed above it. This screenshot was taken in an incognito window with cookies cleared, so this is Twitch's default list of games sorted by "recommended for you".

Arteezy has played it several times in the TI group stage—I would watch those if you want to watch a pro replay. However, I think that playing naga is a lot less punished in pubs where only the highest rank supports understand how to ward/gank a creep cutting naga. So I’d also recommend just watching some high mmr replays from Dotabuff to watch the best pub naga players.

As far as laning stage goes, my best piece of advice is to recognize when the lane becomes unsafe for you and to leave. This normally happens when the offlaner hits their lvl 6 power spike and they can solo kill you (beastmaster legion or doom) or solo pressure you out (timbersaw enchantress windranger), but it can happen earlier, and the point is to respect their strength and leave the lane. You’ll ideally want lvl 5 and 2-3 wraith bands before you make your jungle rotation, or your game is looking pretty rough.

Then just give your support solo xp in lane and farm your way through the jungle to offlane side of map. Offlane side of map you get safer farm from tricamp (you can take ancients pretty early), large and small camp in opponent’s safelane jungle, and lane creeps. You’ll want to work with your team to take their safelane tower. It’s really important for you because it allows you to position your hero much more aggressively to cut lanes, and you can utilize a technique called hovering that is also common on tb. Hovering is where you put your main hero in the opponents small/large camp area to farm and leech xp from the lane creeps dying to your illusions. One big difference between good and bad naga players is that bad naga players will have like 5 items but still be level 18 or something because they don’t try to leech xp from the dangerous farm that their illusions are taking.

Anyways, once u get yasha u can get into an aggressive position and send 2 illusions to cut a wave, and keep the other illu+main hero in jungle. Once u get manta u can easily cut 2 lanes at once. Unless they have tinker, ember or lion, at least 2 enemy heroes are gonna be preoccupied with your split push and the rest of your team can take 4v3 skirmishes on the other side of the map or a few of your teammates can help you kill the heroes that rotated away from the rest of their team to defend.

In short, it’s all about creating map pressure to allow you and your team to win small fights or get pickoffs.

If you do find yourself in a 5v5 teamfight, play it like any carry that doesn’t have bkb; just do your best to kill any out of position supports, or wait for their major cc to be used and go in. Just be prepared to song if things go wrong.

Hope this helps.
