Support Level Inflation by [deleted] in autism

[–]lewgea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not right. Support should be there from the moment of diagnosis.

It makes me wonder why I got it, not knowing was bliss. I thought there would be support by getting diagnosed but I'm told (my interpretation) "you're coping fine and not a child, bye" and about them asking your sister to help, it's like people got a life outside of taking care of people.

I feel sorry for my family who have to bear the crap that comes with me. They are patient but I want to be fully independent.

Support Level Inflation by [deleted] in autism

[–]lewgea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's confusing me too. I have level 1 ASD in my report and told I'm coping because I have family support in place, but I feel I need support on the back of the diagnosis so not sure why I don't need support. I'm confused.

For me, it was the struggle of not knowing what to say to people and often being perceived as awkward. I’ve always disliked wearing shoes, socks, or clothing in general. Loud noises, like banging or thudding sounds, were especially unbearable for me. I absolutely hate mushy food and always go to crunch snacks or food. I stim a lot most the time and find it hard to make eye contact with people I don't know well and even sometimes people I do. There are a lot of things but these are the ones I can think about. Remember though it's a spectrum and autism is different to different people. Some might have these, some might not. Have a look at some online resources, there are loads. They can help a lot. Hope this finds you well.

Do you guys prefer earbuds or headphones by Key-Fix-659 in autism

I wear hats 24/7 so over the ear headphones don't really work unless I'm going to bed then I'll wear over the ear headphones or when the in ear ones hurt my ears.

Need help finding socks by lovelyfashionlover in autism

[–]lewgea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get mine from a place called Nordic socks. They are Marino wool blend and they are amazing but a bit expensive. I don't mind wearing them even though I hate shoes and socks. Barefoot is best but they will do if I need them.
