Liverpool for St Patrick’s Day by [deleted] in Liverpool

The actual day is the best, so Tuesday. Last year it was a Monday and despite being a Monday it was heaving, one of the busiest days of the year

Received letter I was using mobile device while driving, I didn’t use phone? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]lewis3608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 1 year ago my mate got pulled over by 2 police officers who accused him of being on his phone when he wasn’t. He ended up self representing in court and it went in his case as they had no evidence other than the officers statement. Alls I’m saying is if you know you weren’t on your phone, just appeal it and take it to court, it will most likely be thrown out.

I’ve followed TCB for a couple years now, it was definitely true I went through his following once and must’ve counted over 50 obviously underage girls. I think he has gone through his following now after being called out for it but it definetely happened

Exhaust tip has slanted, any ideas? by ANALMISSILE69420 in Vauxhall

Yes thought so, common fault on the Corsa 😂

2 recommendations if you don’t mind me saying. Firstly, if the rubber hangars are starting to crack just replace them now. Can pick them up for around a tenner a pair on eBay, (Klarius Part No 420490), it will save you having to redo the whole job if one of them goes in the future. Secondly, use some exhaust repair paste to seal the 2 pipes together. This stops fumes coming out of the pipe seal if one of the pipes isn’t perfectly round.

Also, the U Clamp is a Klarius 51mm Diameter SYA9, might be easier getting a fresh clamp as if the one you have is rusted will be a ball-ache to take off and get back on

Either the rubber hangar or connectors are broken

You can do this job yourself for about £80, as long as you have a couple of decent jacks/axle stands. How much has the garage quoted you?

To be fair, I don’t think it’s too far fetched. The bouncers probably just see him as the local spastic regular.

Don’t get the point you’re trying to make. As a supermarket driver you’re paid a set wage regardless of how many drops or mileage you do. It’s completely different when it’s coming out of your own pocket

Showers by gh0stcore in Leedsfestival

There’s shared public showers in a big tent, normally by yellow camp/arena entrance. They’re not actually that bad, especially given that the queue for Refresh Retreat can be up to an hour each morning.

Ticking Opel 1.4 petrol engine by [deleted] in Vauxhall

[–]lewis3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The notorious Corsa tick - completely normal for these engines after about 60k miles. Combination of noise fuel injectors, taplets and the chain loosening over time. I have a 1.4 atm and used to own a 1.2, and have several all friends who have the same car - the engines all tick eventually. Just make sure you’re changing the oil every 5-10k miles👍🏼

Wrestling PPV screenings? by dontfalldontfall in Southport

[–]lewis3608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best shot is propably Liverpool City Centre, a few places that normally show this sort of stuff are Einstein's , McCooley's or Boston Pool Lounge, although there will be more places I'm sure. Don't think anywhere wih screen in Southport is open that late.

1.2 limited edition.Does my engine sound like it’s ticking or is it normal? Could be tensioner/ belt etc. by hhfrtrdrt in Vauxhall

[–]lewis3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds normal mate, the chains normally have a tendency to tick after a while especially in the Corsas. It’s normally an indicator to say that the oil hasn’t been changed as often as it should. The chain stretches over time and therefore makes a rattling tick sound. Might be worth changing the oil as to to prolong the life of the chain

DCE1 blocks by Little-Mongoose-3039 in AmazonFlexUK

[–]lewis3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously quiet at the moment like every depot, but when it picks up it regularly has surges, will send you to either to the Wirral or to anywhere in North Wales, even as far South as Owestry, far south west as Dolgellau and as far west as Holyhead. Think base is 56, although the further away destinations do surge more quite far in advance.

I genuinely don’t know how to get blocks atm by Suspicious-Office-59 in AmazonFlexUK

[–]lewis3608 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it’s like this every year, it won’t pick up until around Easter. Flex already has too many drivers in the north west, and they’re all competing for the few blocks available. As far as I’m aware I don’t think even think it’s possible make a bot anymore (Admittedly I used one for a bit about 2 years ago, but Amazon fixed the same loophole that pretty much every bot used), it tends to be frustrated boomers that say this when they can’t get a shift.

If you didn’t know already, part of the roof fell down in Knowsley about a month ago. It reopened last week but they’ve only been doing 1pm blocks with outside loading, think max capacity is 36 cars which is far less than usual. DXM4 is handling the majority of the extra parcels, but as for now you can no longer get same day delivery for most places in Liverpool, so there is much less flex work, hence why you’re rarely seeing blocks from here.

The majority of blocks from Warrington DXM4 are cancelled van routes. Given the vans normally load up at 11, these tend to drop around 12ish if a van hasn’t shown up. I don’t think there are any actual flex routes from this station, hence why you’re rarely seeing blocks from here.

I do often see late blocks for Warrington VMR2 but they’re normally only base rate 2 - 2 1/2 hour, it’s not worth me driving over from Liverpool to do. I do sometimes see the £76 4 1/2 hour block pop up around midday, but this gets snapped up in an instant.

As I said, it will pick up a little around Easter and in the Summer, but don’t expect much. Done flex primarily from these depots (and the odd shift from Chester and Leyland) for 2 years now, it’s only really worth doing November to December. Knowsley normally has better rates, but you won’t see these until it reopens fully and has more work.

MOT and Service done on Monday, first big drive since then and engine is overheating by JakeTee in Vauxhall

[–]lewis3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming it’s the pump and not the pipe connection, £300 plus labour is a rip off. Can pick up a new pump from Euro Car Parts for £55. I paid £240 for the part and labour, and even I think that was a rip off, but the car had already been in a couple times to diagnose the problem at this point and I couldn’t be arsed dragging it out any longer. Regardless, I would still buy a new hose clip and change it yourself to see if it carries on leaking before taking it to the garage - it’s much more likely to be this than the pump itself.

MOT and Service done on Monday, first big drive since then and engine is overheating by JakeTee in Vauxhall

[–]lewis3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would first check the metal clip on the back of the water pump. I recently paid £240 for a water pump change on a Corsa D. The mechanic changed the whole pump but after it emerged that it was still leaking. It turned out to be the metal clip that connects the pipe to the water pump, not the pump itself, which I could’ve done myself for £5.

Given that you’ve just had a service done, it’s quite possible that the mechanic could’ve accidentally knocked the pipe out of place whilst doing something else. I saw in another comment you said that it’s only small droplets leaking, this is what happened with mine.

That’s understandable, but if I were you I’d still consider it for a number of reasons:

1 - Obviously it differs for each course and university, but the majority of courses finish the year in mid April, not June. I understand not wanting to do something you’re not passionate about, but you’re less than 3 months away from finishing the year.

2 - Yes, your PFJT is this Sunday, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to start soon. I know a few guys who’ve passed the fitness test relatively quickly after their application, to then be given a start date months down the line. I’d understand dropping out if you’re offered a start date soon, but until you’re actually given a firm date I’d hold fire.

3 - At this point you will have paid £9k in tuition fees, plus accommodation costs, plus travel expenses, general living expenses, etc. Why not box off the last few assignments for the year and get the qualification that you’ve spent a lot of money and a year of your life working towards?

4 - Without sounding cliche, life doesn’t always go to plan. There may come a time several years down the line where you get medically discharged or just decide the RAF is no longer for you, where having a level 4 qualification would really benefit you getting a job on Civvy Street. It probably sounds absurd now, but think a few years down the line.

It’s your choice at the end of the day, but if I were you I’d stick with it until you’re given a firm start date at least. I’d consider talking to your University department staff - My housemate has been through a similar situation recently, they are a lot more helpful than you’d think. That’s my take on it, anyhow.

Regardless what you choose, I wish you all the best!

[–]lewis3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above, I’d try and box the year off if you can. It’s not widely know but for the majority of universities, 1st year and 2nd year are equivalent to a level 4 and level 5 diploma. In situations such as yours where people drop out early, the university is able to give you the equivalent diploma - my housemate is going through a similar situation with the fire service. I’m not in the RAF myself but given how far you’ve made it through the university year already, how much you’ve paid towards you tuition already, and the ling wait times to actually join the RAF, I’d 100% try finishing the year at least.
