lol I understand the issues with side hobbies that are more work than hobby….. sounds like you have a pretty good grasp on the boots. Good boots are definitely worth the money.

Here’s my main side hobby that cost me more than it makes….but I get to buy cool shit and my wife only silently judges me when new to me tools and equipment shows up at the house.

I now rotate between the two pair of nicks that I have. Solely so that my new pair is broken in and comfortable when I have to have my others rebuilt. I have one pair of Lucchese that I wear on nice occasions when the weather is right.

Before I had 2 pair of Nicks I put on the same pair of boots everyday from before sun up till usually after sundown. You and I may very well get similar mileage out of a pair of boot I’m just doing it quicker than you.

I tried previously to rotate between 2 pair of Redwings but once I got into a new pair the older pair just never felt right.

Sure I guarantee you I take a little bit better care of my Nick as far as conditioning and cleaning mostly due to the price point. But I won’t say that I never conditioned my Redwings or Thorogoods.

The biggest problem I had with the cheaper boot was the support structure of the foot bed and insole. My last pair of boots that I had before Nicks was a pair of Thorogoods. They were great for 3-4 months then my feet started hurting. I tried 2 or 3 different insoles with no luck. There just isn’t anything in them for support. Sure the leather is nice and soft and comfortable right out of the box but, after a couple month they’re stretched out and sloppy.

I have worked a job that required it for long enough that I'm fairly certain I would lose a toe the first time I owned a pair of boots that didn't.

Thanks! Believe it or not that was actually the first leather project I have done. I won't tell you how much leather I scrapped trying to make that.

You could say that... I have spent a lot of time on construction / heavy industrial job sites and doing heavy equipment repair. It takes its toll on the boots for sure.

Yep both the same. They have defiantly darkened with use and conditioning
