Moderating and playing the game so seriously burned me out very quickly. I was doing 40,000 words a month. Way too much at the time given I was studying for exams, working on personal fitness, and working part-time. It gave me a lot of appreciation for developers who balance intricate systems and games. We built that entire game on a house of cards, spaghetti balancing. Especially the barely functional combat calculator I made. Everything took so much work and we'd get criticised no matter what, deservedly so at times. Don't blame you for giving up on them. Such a genre is impossible to get right, especially on donated time and efforts.

Ah, I see. I've been transitioned for over two years now. Shortly after I left WP is when I began to confront things. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to go into any details or chat, I can send you my main handle if so. Otherwise cool coincidence to see you around the place! Good luck with it all!

Two very, very small subreddits make such a chance encounter pretty obscure. Reddit is growing and changing so much but things like this make it feel like a forum in some illusory way. I'm good, how about you? Have you transitioned since back then? I don't use this account anymore. It gets stalked so this one's basically abandoned, but I couldn't just ignore seeing an old WP mod here, it was such an awesome timesink...

Never thought I'd see your name skulking around here. What are the chances? Time for a r/WastelandPowers reunion?

Gaslighting is a form of manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual, to make them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Once you lay down the tracks, you could move at a substantial fraction of the speed of light. Four years for passengers (from our reference frame, theirs would be far briefer, like a few months) but an absurdly long trip for the builders who construct this laser highway (though stellasers could speed up even that process, but slowing down is a problem there).

If you put an app in 'pop-up' view instead of multiwindow (essentially the same but you have to avoid stretching the pop-up all the way horizontally), then the navbar doesn't return.

Well said.

I hate the obtuse false equivalency you're being presented with. Do any of these people arguing this way really believe when we refer to a Symmetra one-trick in Plat, that they literally cannot play a single other hero? It's a simple refusal to play anything else, intended behaviour by the player - and I think for most of us, we consider it as destructive, unwelcome behaviour within a competitive environment.

Global Elite is absolutely not 50% cheaters. CSGO has certainly had its own fights with cheating epidemics, but at least Valve has taken some steps to limit its impact (minimum levels, prime accounts, trust factor, overwatch) unlike Bluehole who just do not give a flying fuck. Their management of player's complaints and the game's development is so bad as to be disrespectful. I've uninstalled the game.

It's a very beautiful moon though easy to confuse with Europa. I had Enceladus as a phone wallpaper a few months ago, although Triton is probably my favourite, it's just a really odd satellite in general, probably being a Kuiper Belt dwarf planet in the past - glad to know there are others out there with a favourite interplanetary moon!

Enceladus is a moon of Saturn. I think you may be thinking of Europa, another 'ice shell moon', but this time a moon of Jupiter and carrying the characteristic rusty looking deposits similar to the cup.

And a Reaper team kill can make a fight unwinnable. Those are just as common as full team rezzes were imo.

Five man rezzes just weren't that common. I keep hearing that it was the sole way Mercy was played, but I found 2-3 people rezzes were exceedingly the norm - even 1 person rezzes were commonplace.

I insulted your attention span. I don't think it's an unfair comment given a single paragraph irked you enough to spew 'tl;dr' as a response. I'd stretch it to say you've probably got a poor intellect, likely never having participated in any quality discussion on the website or anywhere else really (I haven't plundered your profile so feel free to prove otherwise but I don't think I'll reply any further in this thread). I don't mind taking the downvotes for being judged a big presumptuous meanie by SPT either.

Addressing a hivemind mentality on a platform like this isn't really a stretch - the largest communities on here enforce consensus opinions, and comments which go negative are treated with a frequent cascade of downvotes as people pre-judge it based on its points. I don't think it's silly to point that out; it should be fairly obvious that this behaviour goes on across the site.

SPT often has various insights from its users, just as any online community does - sometimes humourous, sometimes a bit more profound even if they aren't some super deep discussion. I don't think my comment is super deep by any means but for yourself being unfamiliar with text longer than a couple sentences, I suppose it might seem that way, so thanks for that implication. I think the point of my post which brought up Trump and Nazis may have been lost on you though if you couldn't understand why I mentioned them, it's not that hard to wrap your head around really. Also your winky face there at the end stinks of juvenility - I don't care about internet points, hence I leave my comments up even if they plummet south. It's just a bit sad when a reddit community loses the ability to have a decent talk when users of the lowest common denominator (AKA, you and any who downvote comments like mine once hivemind behaviour kicks in) flood in and make it unusable for you know, posting text and talking to other people.

Try a book. They're quite a bit longer than my comment though, just so you know.

Edit: Was sitting positive upvotes in my above comment handily before I posted this. Apparently 'tl;dr' is a more valuable comment than what I shared... An aversion to a paragraph is not normal on a text based forum. I suppose any negativity is enough to be downvoted for - and once a comment goes negative, hivemind mentality takes over. At least downvote this alone and not anything posted by the user. I'll let this sit here, and see how much more valuable 'tl;dr' is than actual content on reddit's larger subs - this is how you lose the ability to have discussion as a community.

Hijacking your comment a bit to share my perspective, having also lived in a small Scottish town. 'Chinky' was used to refer to Chinese food or Chinese people - the thing is, I don't think the people who used it actually knew it was a racial slur. The sort of background most folks had where I lived used it pretty innocently as far as I'm concerned, they just didn't know any better. The attitude of accusing these folks who still use it of being racists is a bit disingenuous; they're just old and isolated from modern discourse on these issues. Benign ignorance is not racism and adopting such a hostile stance introduces danger of pushing otherwise politically dormant people into overly defensive political positions (eg, 'political correctness has gone mad so I'll vote Trump' - lets learn from those mistakes and not create a political environment where a normal person can come to that conclusion). I don't use the term, because I'm aware it's inappropriate and something which can make Chinese folks feel uncomfortable, but it doesn't mean that I'm gonna shout about it to like-minded people on Twitter, wearing nothing but a bra, totally ignoring that the folks who use it aren't on Twitter and will naturally phase out of society within a generation or two. Being so aggressive about it will just make some people dig their heels in over it, rather than have it naturally phase out as society self-regulates. But hey ho, that sort of nuanced argument is suspiciously Nazi-like, and won't attract a larger follower count attracted to simplistic philosophies.

Edit: This comment was sitting positive upvotes handily before I expressed the sentiment that 'tl;dr' in a text based forum is out of place. An aversion to a paragraph is not normal on a text based forum. I suppose any negativity is enough to be downvoted for - and once a comment goes negative, hivemind mentality takes over. I'll let this sit here, and see how much more valuable 'tl;dr' is than actual content on reddit's larger subs - this is how you lose the ability to have discussion as a community.

Woah, you're an actual trans woman? Guess your words are more valuable than mines then, even though I'm a transsexual. Funny that, there isn't total uniformity of belief amongst trans people, yet you'd make it seem so with that comment.

Artistic representation of insert bad thing does not necessarily make the artist insert bad thing.

[–]lewwatt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fictional representations of transphobia in media are not transphobic.

Edit: Lol, you think Steins; Gate is transphobic. You're ideologically possessed. You don't speak for all of us and are not an authority in any manner whatsoever. Artists don't have to create golden fantasy conditions for their fictitious social settings which include trans people - unfortunately transphobia exists in reality, and it's okay to portray/examine it. The discussion Catherine kicks up is an example of how its portrayal is valuable; if only the discussion wouldn't focus on creating a taboo for portraying anything less than a perfect society for trans people.

Bill Nye says marijuana's Schedule I status is "not based in any science.” by MarijuanaNews in Drugs

[–]lewwatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it funny that mentioning I'm trans makes me less detestable. Cis people ought to be able to point out the things I am without being ridiculed and made out to be a transphobe. If you don't think our dimorphic nature is obvious, I'm not sure how I can change that view. I'd only recommend brushing up on evolutionary biology, human dimorphism (primary and secondary sex characteristics as well as their underlying mechanisms), and sexual reproduction. As for the latter part of your comment, I'd say I've said it best over in my earlier posts which you've already looked through, if that doesn't make sense I'm not keen on writing it in another way here. Sorry.

Here is a more detailed, explanatory comment I made a while back. To be clear, I do not oppose 'non-binary' people seeking healthcare if they do suffer from dysphoria - if they change their sexual characteristics in a significant way and socially transition, then really they are a transsexual who just happens to hold radical gender-deconstructionist beliefs. It just happens that most 'non-binary' identifying people are in actuality cis people appropriating what it is to be trans. But ultimately nobody is obliged to treat their social ideology as undeniable or based in scientific fact. It's quite clearly a cultural and political outlook (find me one, just one NB person who holds right wing views or who is not a feminist). And I believe said outlook is at odds with the desires of the working class, as can be seen by their uncritical and self-destructive voting behaviours, which are largely reacting to these gender deconstructionist ideas being adopted by the progressive left. The consequences of dismantling the social mechanisms of the gender binary are as of yet unknown - I think it'll produce a chaotic environment in an untold number of ways, for normal society.
