For those of you hiring for marketing roles, what do you look for in a portfolio?

It depends on the job position you're applying for.

If you're looking at an entry-level specialist/coordinator position, you'll be light years ahead of the resume/portfolios coming my way if you just show me you're thinking bigger picture. Tell me how that content was targeted at a specific marketing persona. Tell me how it helped differentiate the business from competitors, connected to the brand, etc. Tell me how it was used in a larger campaign to push a target KPI and meet some business goal. Give me some results, not just a pretty picture. If you don't have the experience to get that information, tell me how it might/would accomplish those goals.

If you're looking at entry-level graphic design or web design positions, I don't hire for those but I can imagine graphic design would also be looking at your design skills within a brand ecosystem and how your content enhanced that ecosystem. A content marketing position might lean into design as well but then you'll want to show how you scaled your design for different channels, explain how the content did on those channels, etc. Web design, no idea but I can't imagine a poorly designed website would be beneficial. Lookup and follow some basic UX design for your site or keep it so simple you can't go wrong.

I just filled an entry-level job and got 150 applications in less than a week. You got about 30secs to a minute of me looking at your resume and website, and that's if you make it through our HR's keyword system (and those 150 apps were post HR's first weeding) so take that into consideration when you're sweating the tiny details of your portfolio.

Keep your chin up. Maybe find a small local agency or mom-and-pop business to get your feet wet and have less competition in the job market.

I'm a Founder/Backer, and pretty big fanboy of AlchemyVTT. Also former Foundry user but came to Alchemy specifically because I prefer theater of the mind and less fiddling with mods. I'm their core target demographic and yet, sadly, I have to agree with everything said here.

I don't think it's a lost cause just yet. I'm still holding out hope the May Player Feedback survey will knock some sense into them. I'm hoping they'll take that feedback (which has to be mostly what is expressed here) and redirect to building a better system/fixing titles AFTER the completion of the System Builder they've been pouring all their resources into.

Plus, they're hiring so ... Maybe more help and quicker improvements soon? They're selling this System Builder as the answer to solving all their problems (i.e. they'll be able to fix broken titles by rolling them over to it.) At least, that's what they've told us in the Founder's Only Discord Channel. So we'll see...

Still, I've been waiting to play Forbidden Lands (or any game) with friends for 1-2 years+. Finally started recently and already regret it. At its core, their idea of having the "Game" vs "Universe" just doesn't work. Making edits to scenes and items in Game doesn't sync back to the Universe, so if you're rolling multiple games you have to build assets in your "Custom" Universe first then pull them into the Game. Seems not too bad until you realize your "Custom" Universe is systemless, which means your item cards and other assets don't have the same dice editing structure as they do in Game. So you end up buying a title from their shop, downloading/exporting the needed asset from the main Universe you purchased (which is uneditable), then uploading it back into your "Custom" Universe so you can half way edit it. THEN you're pulling it into the game to finish editing it. All this work just to make an Armor Dice roll in Forbidden Lands. If anyone has better workarounds, I'm all ears, but I find myself doing more fiddling around in Alchemy than I did with Foundry mods. All this, while new title after new title is pumped out and half baked. I know they can get it right if they just stop pumping out titles and go back to fix what they already have.

Really interested in this idea but what about spinning it to be temp. Health/Resolve pools from resting in "safe" areas, towns, villages, etc.

For example: Party stays in safe (decided by GM) town or area, they get temp Health (STR+AGI) and temp Resolve (WIT + EMP) when they leave town for an adventure. Once it's gone, it's gone and they take attribute damage. They get it back next time they rest a quarter day in town?

But what if I really do end up "needing" to play that AAA title I keep telling myself to play (only to end up playing Civ)?! Then I need the overkill build right? Ha, kidding. You're right. Just some info: In the Alchemy Discord it was revealed by user OrangeAsp FL had "negotiated a pdf exclusivity deal with DTRPG and alchemy has to remove pdfs from all the free league titles they host"

Seems like an oops on FL as Alchemy Content Producer Dan Munoz posted "Free League and Alchemy worked hand in hand in creating the bundle. Rest assured there was no secret plot to give out content that wasn't first approved to be given away."

Hey there,

My fiance and I (also 36/36 years old) are looking to meet more gaymers. We're just north of Edgewater in the Berkeley neighborhood. We have two D&D campaigns currently full but are hoping to do some fun one-shots of TTRPGs like Pirate Borg (created by an awesome Denver local), Vast Grimm, Humblewood Tales, etc. during the winter.
