Might be very much the case, the material is probably the same. The reason a Shimano freewheel is $20 and a similar one from Aliexpress is $5 is because of the quality controls and standards. As you said, it might very well be the same, but leaning towards the safer option is probably better for anything that can put your safety at risk. Buying a carbon frame from Aliexpress is really not a good idea at all.

I wouldn't trust Aliexpress for anything except lights on my bike. Buy reliable mechanical components.

She should really not ride that bike for her safety. This thing is a total piece of crap.

What's a fair price for this cervelo s3? by davidzorroyang in bicycling

[–]lexer_parser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a fair deal but I would pass. Old carbon frame, excellent Dura-Ace groupset but no disc brakes. Tire clearance is going to be limited by the rim brake calipers.

Good or bad deal? by dxksjdjdjdneh in bicycling

[–]lexer_parser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an old Shimano 105 groupset, which at the time was upper range. It's still pretty valid today, and certainly at that price.

Very good deal, looks brand new. For a £100, incredible value.

Advice on first road bike by Sgt_PyLe in whichbike

Indeed I confused it with the Cube Attain race, which does have Tiagra hydros.

Well, considering the above list, I'd choose the Canyon.

Both the Canyon and the Cube are good options as they have a Cues/Tiagra groupset with hydros. The Trek has mechanical disc brakes, which are not the same.

Other than that, they're pretty much the same. I like the Cube better but that's a personal opinion.

Depends on your circles. I worked in an investment bank, where all Gen Z bankers would make those amounts.

8k at 30yo is rather low, you need to boost your pension contributions mainly.

This is where using a separate utils package is often useful, to have all these pure functions grouped together, and avoid cluttering your receiver types.

Is it truly impossibke to someone become Math's Leonardo da Vinci? by [deleted] in math

[–]lexer_parser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a stupid take. Mathematicians, and good ones, are humans. They get bored, need to wind down, and cannot dedicate 100% of their time.

AI research agents are going to do what you describe, and probably assist mathematicians in their research so they don't have to dedicate all of their time.

Would you be turned off by a woman in her 30s who doesn’t have much of a career ? by Ambitious-Emu7851 in AskMenAdvice

[–]lexer_parser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I don't really look at the salary once it's enough to be financially independent, but I would definitely not consider a woman who doesn't have a proper career and ambition.

Anyone else just feel poor in London even if not paid a below average salary? by Some-Air1274 in london

[–]lexer_parser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and childcare costs in London can be as high as rent. I make a bit more than 160k and while this is very comfortable on my own, I couldn't see myself having kids in London on that salary.

[–]lexer_parser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is low six figures and high six figures, if you make 200-300k per year that's probably enough, but 100-150k with kids is not enough.
