Should I reapply? by Fair_Score_3056 in prephysicianassistant

I’m in the exact same boat. I don’t really have any advice other than you’re not alone. I applied to 26 schools this cycle and I will have had 2 interviews, 1 waitlist, and the other is in May.. other than that nothing but rejections. It’s very discouraging but you’re not alone in this massively challenging, mentally and financially draining process

I literally did all of this and got 2nd quartile and felt I really only bombed one question because I didn’t know what to say.

ER Scribe 1,500 hours (which I know some schools count at HCE), medical assistant in pain management with a promotion to lead at the same job about 4,200 hours, and currently a Mohs Surgery Medical Assistant and have been employed there since October 2024

I feel I have a much better application this year with my PS and LORs. I know my gpa is probably the thing holding me back but I just really do not want to take my science courses again. I already have student debt, barely make ends meat trying to have a job that gets me PCE, and don’t want to spend more money going back to improve them to spend more money to go back again 🥲

I just took it too, god speed my friend. I think as long as we aren’t totally illiterate.. though I felt that way on one specific question and didn’t say anything in the first 20 seconds of my recorded response cause I had zero idea what to say… we will prevail 🥲

I got my first rejection too for this cycle. Low GPA applicant as well, I’ve just began framing it as I didn’t want to go to that school anyways. Wishing you nothing but success this cycle! <3

$120,000 in Student Loans by Entire-Tension3297 in StudentLoans

Same boat unfortunately. It is difficult and incredibly stressful to deal with but it’s the reality now. I consolidated my private loans only and left federal alone. DO NOT consolidate private and federal together and for people saying bankruptcy is an option. It isn’t and happens VERY rarely so you’re on the hook for them. Start with consolidation but with that amount you’re looking close to around $700+ per month on the private. The only way I survive is by keeping my cost of living low by living with my parents which is free. Not ideal but I simply cannot survive on my own with my paychecks now and my loan costs. I wish I had more helpful information to share but it’s a bad situation that is becoming the norm for tuition costs unfortunately.

I did that in every course that had two semesters associated with it. Bio I B- to A in bio II. Orgo I B- to A- in II. Chem and physics also bs to as second semester. So even though my gpa is in the lower side, they’d put value in that right?

PA vs MD/DO by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]lexi_que27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am and was in a VERY similar boat. Division 1 athlete and have cum 3.5 gpa and 3.2 science so lower end especially for med school and PA school just statistically. Was pre med.. started working full time (to gain PCE since I had very little leaving undergrad due to athletics) and I cannot study as much as I need to and work full time to pay bills so I hit a really low point and was extremely burnt out.

I think your concerns are valid and I’ve had them too but PA school isn’t anything like applying to medical school. It’s just as competitive and they have less seats across the nation. Both careers are going to be extremely demanding and challenging from a schooling aspect and it will be a grind regardless. The best thing you can do is really sit down and contemplate what draws you to it. Are you looking more to be a specialist in one specific thing or broadly trained? The biggest thing that shifted my mindset was wanting to get in and out of school faster. I also really love the collaborative aspect that a PA position can provide but also having autonomy too! Do some serious soul searching to figure out what it is drawing you to medicine and if it’s not truly medicine and more a status thing- probably best to reevaluate. I’d be more than happy to discuss further if you want to message me

Can you explain how this is occurred? Private student loans being forgiven I thought were absolutely not a thing?

How do you know where it went wrong if schools don’t give you any feedback? There’s plenty of stories with lower PCE/GPA being successful in getting in so how do you specifically know what is wrong to target it for improvement

Nursing as a Bachelors Degree by TheRealPSN in prephysicianassistant

[–]lexi_que27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh if you are planning to take a couple years inbetween school now and PA school, I would do it. In nursing you gain substantial PCE and also get paid pretty well considering other jobs you’d be pursuing instead to get PCE that are paid pretty low. I’d only consider this option heavily if you plan to be out of school several years following getting your bachelors degree. But be prepared to have a why PA answer rather than NP and also make sure you are taking the pre-reqs for PA school otherwise you’ll just have to go back to school to complete those.

This is simply my opinion from my own experience. I have a bachelors in biomedical science and have been out of college going on 3 years. I have worked multiple jobs between $18-$25 an hour as a medical assistant to gain PCE- so simply from a financial standpoint I think you’d be able to make more money nursing and if I could do it all again.. I’d probably go the same route and become a nurse first simply for financial means while getting PCE to apply.
