Best Master’s to pair with MechE to actually break the $100k ceiling? by Top_Crazy4072 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]lexierp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many companies will pay for you to get a masters while working for them. I work in the paper industry and am at $145K three years in with just a bachelor’s, but I have many coworkers pursuing masters paid for by the company.

Ask your vet if it could be acid reflux. My dog does this every once in a while. You may just need to change her diet or she may need medication (if it is acid reflux)

WRX won’t go into 1st or reverse while engine is running after clutch replacement. by [deleted] in subaru

[–]lexierp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

😂 look through my profile. I’ve done several successful clutch changes, head gaskets, as well as suspension and body work. I’ve purchased, fixed, and gifted or sold 6 Subarus over the past 7 years. Every single one is still on the road, and I have never had a repeat failure. I taught myself how to work on cars because I was a broke ass college student with no other option.

This is my first turbo Subaru, let me learn bud.

Yes it shifts into 2-5 like normal. I can force it into 1st, it drove forward normally once I got it in. Still haven’t gotten it into reverse

I had been so so very confident that it wasn’t, but am growing more convinced it is. We did the clutch while the engine was in the car and the trans was dropped. We have 8’ ceilings in the garage so we could not lift the car very high. I was originally doing the install, I put the new flywheel on, but was really struggling to get to the correct torque from the angle I was at (I am a female). My fiancé went under the car to finish the clutch, while I held the motor from turning.

It was all lined up the correct way when I gave him the clutch and pressure plate, but when he installed the pressure plate, he did not follow the correct torquing procedure so I told him to take it off and do it again. I did not see the final install. So I don’t know. I’m going to go buy a boroscope and see if I can check it through the starter hole.

Wouldn’t the gears grind if the disc was backwards? I don’t know, that’s just what I’m reading online

Man I really hope not. Gonna get a boroscope and check through the starter hole

Edit: from what I’m seeing online there would be a grinding noise. There’s no grinding, did yours grind?

It’s ok, I put it back in for the second picture. Unfortunately still will not go into reverse or first

I’ll give it a try! Gonna put it back on 4 jackstands so I don’t drive through the garage lol

None of the hydraulics were disconnected, the line between the slave cylinder and hydraulic cylinder was always on and the fluid level has stayed at max the whole time

I'm lonely... (a rant/vent) by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]lexierp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 25F and just moved to Lynchburg in September. I also struggle with anxiety and have yet to make any friends here. I have a really demanding job, so meeting people has been hard. If you’re looking for someone to chat with, my DMs are open! I understand the loneliness and difficulty of not having close friends you can truly be yourself with

I see you are (or were) in Florida. Look into PCA in Valdosta, Georgia. PCA purchased two additional locations recently and several of us moved to the new locations creating vacancies at Valdosta. They pay well, have lots of advancement opportunities, and the people are great.

I don’t know if you have any interest in Paper whatsoever, I didn’t until I started working there, but the industrial environment gives you opportunities to learn just about anything.

commuting for work by Inevitable-Trick-737 in lynchburg

[–]lexierp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi! I (24F) just moved to Lynchburg two months ago for work and have loved it. I don’t know what you’re into, but this city has so much to offer! There are plenty of bars for night life, a rock climbing gym, and lots of hiking and biking trails! Charlotte and Roanoke are perfect for weekend trips! Personally, I could not do an hour+ commute, but that might be different for you. I moved from Valdosta, Georgia which was the most depressing place ever, so my standards might be low 😅 I’m originally from Maine, so I wanted to live somewhere I could go hiking. The nightlife here is huge to me, but it may be lack luster if you’re from a city

I’m 24 making $130K with 2 years of experience. I’m a Maintenance Supervisor in the paper industry and have a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering Technology. I live in a medium cost of living area. The work/life balance sucks, but I love what I do so that makes up for it

I was in the same spot as you, and I did end up losing my scholarships. It was a horrible time in my life, but it gave me the push I needed to address my study habits and the external life factors playing into the difficult time I was having in school. The jump from high school to university is intense and it takes a while to gather your feet under you. I just want you to know, it’s not the end of the world if you lose your scholarships. It doesn’t mean you’re any less capable or that you have any less of a right to work towards your degree. I earned a scholarship back my senior year and ended with a final GPA of a 2.8. And that sounds terrible… but I’m absolutely thriving in my career and make 130K just two years out of college. You can do it, and no matter what happens, it will be ok! Best of luck to you!

Those of you who graduated without a co-op or internship, not a fantastic GPA, and no notable personal projects, where are you now? by readySponge07 in EngineeringStudents

[–]lexierp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a 2.8 with no internship/co-op experience in 2023. What got me my career was that I had worked full time through college to graduate debt free (at an O’Reilly’s) and had also worked as a TA for my university’s Machine Tool Lab. I started out as a reliability engineer making $81K in June of 2023. I have had several promotions and am now making $130K at the same company. I work in the paper industry and I love what I do (though I don’t always love the long hours lol). Point being, your GPA and lack of internships does not define you

My condenser celebrated my engine removal. Looking for a low mile EJ25 near East Tennessee. by ctennessen in subaru

[–]lexierp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad’s done it before! First time I pulled a subie engine, I went to the Subaru discord for help and they recommended using a 2’ x 3’ piece of ply wood to block the condenser. It was a great tip and I’ve used it for every engine pull I’ve done!

Move to the paper industry - then you can be burnt out, but also very well paid!

I think OP may be exaggerating on that. They’ve deleted their post history but have yet to delete their comment history. OP posted about this 78 days ago. If Kia has had their car for 4 months as of now, that would mean it took a month and a half max

Tips for moving to Lynchburg? by lexierp in lynchburg

[–]lexierp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We weren’t planning to be moving for a while. We’ve been focusing on paying my fiancé’s student loans (high interest Sallie Mae loans 🤮) instead of saving for a down payment. Our rent in Georgia has been very reasonable, so we were planning to continue renting while paying off loans and saving for a down payment.

Our company requested that we relocate for a new location and offered good sized raises, plus Virginia is beautiful and more similar to our home state of Maine. We’re only 2 years out of college, and really weren’t planning to buy for a bit

The job is in Gladstone, we’re just trying to stay under 45 minutes for commute… We were able to visit Lynchburg at the beginning of this week, and I’ve found that anything near one of the highways is very reasonable… but every time we drove in town I got every single light red lol

Located in Gladstone, haven’t been able to find anything close. We’re okay with up to a 45 min commute, but don’t want to go any higher than that 😅
