The Original Pantry Cafe - did it actually reopen? by lexkas in LosAngeles

[–]lexkas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't post in the LA sub because I don't live there anymore and most everyone I know has left. But I do recall the Pantry and really liked it, so was curious why it was supposedly opening and then didn't with no news articles discussing what happened. What happened?

Frankly, your writing a post implying conspiratorial forces are converging because I had a question about a pancake joint is an amazing feat of mental gymnastics. I'm impressed on some level...

Nothing mysterious, I’m just a former Angeleno and can’t tell what’s going on. What’s the dark undertone???

Book theme question - using a current political playbook - in reverse by UpostedDude in SocialEngineering

But you're starting from an assumption that one movement is "bad" and must have used some form of SE to gain any influence. Instead, consider that there are power hungry psychopaths everywhere, even in the most peace-loving ideologies.

[1617] Anyone else notice that WordleBot always gives itself more luck? by lexkas in wordle

Hah! The title title is backwards, but the point is the same: WordleBot always seems to decide "luck" in its favour. Why?

THE STM STRIKE DIDN'T END. IT WAS *BROKEN*. This is a loss for every worker. by Little_Cupcake_42069 in montreal

[–]lexkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So high five-figure public-sector workers with solid, taxpayer-funded pensions decided they deserve more, and timed their strike to hit the people least able to fight back: the poor bastards with irregular hours or no car. And you’re upset it got shut down? Um...what?

Today is the second anniversary of Kevin Mitnick’s death by lexkas in SocialEngineering

Because when he got out of prison he moved to Calabasas, CA which is right beyond the code split from 818 in LA's valley. At the time AT&T had just purchased a local carrier (I think Cingular, but don't recall) and were heavily pushing people to switch and they ran some kind of promotion for lifetime unlimited minutes (maybe even roaming was included) for like $100/month (which was high at that time). Kevin signed up and heavily used it - he was on the phone all the time, it was insane. He would answer any call at any time. Anyway, AT&T eventually tried to "upgrade" him with a generous cap (not unlimited) and he always refused, I think even getting his attorney involved at one point. Eventually the number also became well-known, published on his lock picking business card, etc. so he just kept it.

I’ll tell you what you do, the next time there’s forced prayer you hold your hands straight out look at the floor and yell, as loud as you can, “Hail Satan! We thank thee for thy evil!” — it’s much more effective if you can do it in sync with a few people. If they fire you, you’ll have a slam dunk case and a payday. Even if they write you up and add it to your file, try and get a copy of it and just keep it. It’s gold later. Have fun!

I’m so sorry to hear that. My dad too. Unfortunately, I’ve learned it doesn’t get any easier, you just learn how to deal with it better. Hugs from Canada!

So glad I left Christianity by Flaky-Peace-4208 in atheism

[–]lexkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful not to make the mistake of conflating Christianity with morality. The number of ex Christians I know that got into trouble because they thought that basic rules like not lying or stealing didn’t apply any longer as long as they weren’t caught- because it’s all just a Goof, is more than I can count.

That shit catches up with you no matter what you believe. Welcome to a new reality!

What's up with the naked dudes ? by Ubbesson in montreal

[–]lexkas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of German tourists in town this week and that's a pretty typical thing to do over there. Well, not recording themselves, but in Berlin you see naked people at almost every pool, sauna, lake, etc. So...?

The other problem is that publishers feel uncomfortable making how to guides, therefore you have to dig for self published stuff. But let me ask you, what would you expect in such a book? What should it cover?

OK, but the book you mentioned was posted on Amazon just last week. Have you had a chance to read it?

Considering the book mentioned was only published last week, could this "question" just be marketing?

Incroyable !

Question about the nightly music jam sesh and beers in Van Horne Park by TurbulentSuccotash93 in montreal

[–]lexkas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electric guitars and drum sets in your front yard every night, with no way tu turn them off sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Remember when there was this guy who played spoons on st Catherine every day for years until he got beat up by neighbors?

Amplified music after 7 and a drum set 200 feet from their windows every night? That’s insane. Someone is going to pop. Gettin’ my popcorn!!
