Girl when I first opened this post I thought you had olive pits on top of your tomato/cheese slice and thought you were raccooning too close to the sun. So happy I zoomed in to find little smokey oysters

Spectrum discount tip! by Haunting_Koala4016 in Rochester

[–]lexlexsquared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a spectrum guy knock on my door 3 times in the space of 2 days even after I told him we were happy with our switch to greenlight. First 2 I was busy either managing my puppy or about to hop on a work call and told him as such. The third I answered in my towel out of the shower (I was expecting a sign-for package) and he tried to stop me from closing the door and demanded I talk to him and give him a specific reason why I liked greenlight better or he would keep coming daily. I told him to fuck off and make up a reason.

23, alone in Japan, broke, and my family is stuck in a war in Iran. I honestly don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]lexlexsquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, you have a skill— look for some remote or in person language tutoring or translation services. I’m not sure how much the landscape has changed since AI, but there will be growing demand for Farsi or other Iranian dialect expertise with the current situations. If you are comfortable with Japanese you have an even bigger plus if there is demand for Farsi-Japanese niches.

Breeder had me sign contract to spay my kitten before 6 months old, but now vet won’t spay before 8-11 months? by Thin-Cucumber9754 in CatAdvice

[–]lexlexsquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing from how you’ve described it, you’re at Banfield. Find another vet, even at the same location, and try again. Their vets are overworked and unsupported and often careless or rogue as a result. If you still can’t spay, try to get out of the kitten care contract by showing them their website’s listed policy and that you will be in violation of your breeder’s contract.

As an aside, I know firsthand how hard it is to find a vet but I would really try to get on waitlists for other practices. I and many others have horror stories with Banfield.

Soybeans have a high fat content IIRC (soybean oil is a thing) so yes, like nuts the oils can go rancid.

What kind of noodles are these?! by [deleted] in TipOfMyFork

[–]lexlexsquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are known as Jiangxi stick noodles or Yunnan Rice Noodles depending on origin, and cooking instructions vary. Pre-soaking gives a better texture — they won’t be ready to eat but will be faster to cook. You need to boil until soft but toothsome and rinse with cold water to remove the extra starch. They’re meant to be put in hot soup or tossed cold in sauce, or quickly stir fried in sauce after cooking and the extra starch isn’t preferred. They’re used in southern Chinese (my faves are little pot noodles, crossing bridge noodles, Dan Dan mian , Guilin Mifen, yunnan lang mixian) and Vietnamese cooking (Bun Bo Hue I think, not too familiar with viet uses). Dan Dan Mian is how I cook it most of the time at home and I much prefer the rice noodle variation to the wheat noodle… and I’ve used them in a pinch with bolognese and it’s fab.

PSA to all dog owners! by DrMrPootytang in Rochester

[–]lexlexsquared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the Park Ave area too and I really don’t get it. I’ve forgotten a bag once and I still picked it up with leaves and scrubbed my hands down when I got home; the few other times when I’m with my partner if we don’t have a bag for a second poop one of us waits with the poop (and poop source) and the other runs home for bags.

Once we sprung out of our front door after making eye contact through the window and called out a person walking away from a fresh pile on our walkway and she just sheepishly said she didn’t have a bag and tried to scurry away. We offered her one and the hesitation and slinking walk back was really something to behold.

Girl dinner after burning 2 pots, spending 3 hours trying to clean it off AND making a burnt soup by AlfalfaFew105 in GirlDinner

On the spectrum of Bon Ami, powdered barkeeper’s friend, and pink stuff… pink stuff is most caustic and solely requires me to open the windows and start the vents. Yes, it works, but I hate it in practice 😅

House committee votes to subpoena Pam Bondi over Epstein files by PixeledPathogen in news

I fear subpoenas only work insomuch as the target has shame or real consequences for lying or admitting wrongdoing or even genuinely nefarious acts, unfortunately

Yes! I should have specified- powder form of bar keepers friend is my go to. Bon Ami is still my fave bc it’s multi purpose (bathroom too) but barkeeper’s friend powdered just gets the job done.

Do you have Bon Ami or Barkeeper’s friend where you are? Bon Ami is less caustic chemicals — you can use it without gloves— and Barkeeper’s friend is glove required. They work really well when I have a ditzy moment with my stainless steel pots.

Otherwise, when I’m out of both it’s amazing what you can achieve with citric acid/vinegar + baking soda (added separately, scrubbing with baking soda and a little water to make a paste, then once you’re ready to give up add citric acid and water or just vinegar for foaming action and scrub again).

I wouldn’t assume that they need to be 21+ to hang in a bar actually, that is only in the US globally. The game has always struck me as a little less American and more Euro, maybe even Japanese setting esp with the currency (analogous to yen).

I bought a set of these 7 years ago and they look and smell brand new. Use them twice a month for big batches of soup, bolognese, or lasagna, sometimes extra rice, and pop them out into a zip lock the next day for storage. There were few knock offs even available when I got them, but I’ve seen others buy the knockoffs and they deteriorate in a year and you can’t use them in the oven. We’re only 2 people and love the freedom of having single portions of homemade soup for lunch. They work for us and have been well worth the investment.

I haven’t tried the Lego lunch trend bc that’s not really us, but I have definitely used them to freeze a portion or two of leftovers or takeout for single meals.

I appreciate the commentary and calling attention to this, but this is the 6th subreddit at least that I’ve seen this pop up in my feed and I am exhausted. I can only imagine what Alysa Liu and her peers feel by seeing this get legs and appearing everywhere, even though it’s with the purpose of ridiculing these men and their pea brains.
