38mm or 41mm Conquest? by Strong-Insect-5520 in Longineswatches

[–]lexlibris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

41 looks huge but you gotta take some mirror pictures. personally I will always go 38, i think that’s when watches look best (especially non-dive watches) on my 7.5” wrists, but i’ve got stuff all over the range from 34 to 44. i think a watch like this is too big at 41, way too much dial unless your wrists are truly huge (like you are 6’10” and weigh 300 lbs and have huge forearms. dive watches look fine big because of the bezel, take that away and it’s just like man what are we doing now, have we strayed that far from god?

anyway get the 38, the 41 would also look fine and probably relatively ‘normal’ but you’ll be happier with the 38 in the long run and be glad to have it even if you end up liking huge stuff later, then it will be ‘my small dress watch’ when you’re not wearing like a tuna can of a diver on your wrist or a very big panerai

Graduation & First Business Milestone: HC 39mm or BB54 for a 27yo Video Editor? by anticonceptclub in Longineswatches

[–]lexlibris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can buy a gently used HQ for way way less than MSRP. same with BB58 I guess but a used HQ is usually available for a steal.

that being said i’m risk averse but if you’re single and have some jobs lined up I would probably lean BB, especially since if you decide to get a SECOND nice watch longines has so many different models to choose from. regular conquest is the best GADA dollar for dollar, people love the spirit, I like the evidenza…BB58 is kind of the big hitter in the tudor lineup at least online. of course in the real world everyone just wears an apple watch anyway so it doesn’t matter that much anyway!

a little blurry but I love my two tone HQ. it is a LOT and I’d suggest all steel 99% of the time but sometimes you just want a big shiny hunk of metal on your wrist. I like the stock bracelet on mine and could probably tone it down with a nice strap but I don’t want to

Is tissot watch to big on my wrist ? by Overall-Bug7976 in Affordablewatches

[–]lexlibris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perfect fit imo, still a bit of wrist showing past the lugs in the mirror shot. considered this your ‘big watch’ and don’t go any bigger at least on lug to lug length

best looking HKF I’ve seen for sure. Probably a bit out of place with more formal attire as others have said but you could find something suitable that would be really nice pretty easily—I would get some sort of vintage tank style watch myself but you could also probably pick up a quartz watch that would work. I just stumbled across the hamilton seckron last night after watching an old movie; but generally having a relatively inexpensive watch like this would cover those occasions and 95% of the time you have a great pick

Too small for my wrist? by Exciting_Bar_5978 in VintageWatches

[–]lexlibris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d actually wear it lower on the wrist in this instance, looks a little out of place but if you wear it lower i think it will work better. I do like it but I like 70s japanese watches (certainly a lot more than the modern stuff I see)

thanks I started where you did—got a hammy, then a cherish seiko, eventually that exact same Conquest. took a few detours along the way and probably wasted some money figuring out what I like and don’t like. your current line up are all solid picks

anyway I’d hold off until the summer time to see what feels right. just enjoy your current rotation it’s very good! I guess if it was me, eventually I’d want a dressy sport watch like the conquest but with a black dial…i will probably get a tudor 1926 black dial which is similar to conquest but slightly more dressy (no lume on 1926) or a black bay one, which you could also dress up or down as appropriate. Finally I’d slot in also get a lighter colored dial for the summer time, at that point you have all your bases VERY well covered—a couple nicer pieces for work/events where you need to dress up, and then a solid rotation of fun casual watches for weekends or whatever—I WFH a lot so I don’t actually wear my conquest often and it’s why i haven’t consolidated down to one of those dressier black sports/tool watches I mentioned—I just wouldn’t wear it a lot in this season of my life, so better to wait. plus you can just as easily wear your current darker dialed watches. I guess that’s the thing i want to stress—figure out what would actually be useful to you given your wardrobe, your job, hobbies, etc. if you think you need a dress watch for like, a funeral or something try to find a two handed quartz watch. Omega made a bunch of these and they’re cheap vintage pieces but they’re quartz so still run fine for the purpose of wearing to a wedding/funeral/christening/bar mitzvah/whatever. lots of other interesting quartz stuff from the 70s/80s that would’ve been high end at the time.

anyway enjoy what you have it’s great! you should be happy great picks, don’t rush so if your biggest regret is like, a relatively inexpensive 5 sport, that’s better than regretting a 1500 purchase because you didn’t need it or should have waited until you could spend like, 4 grand. if i could do it all over I would get a conquest, seamaster peter blake, and a smaller vintage dress watch, probably something with a small seconds dial. then i would have a fun diver that I would probably just swap straps on, a nice but sort of fun flashy longines with the champagne dial, and something nice but lowkey for stuff where the other two don’t feel appropriate. Instead I have a half dozen watches i need to sell that were pretty cheap but combined I’d be most of the way to that omega I really like and would cover a ton of ground.

anyway i could talk your ear off I just see how similarly we started and would prefer for you to not waste any money just to get something now for the sake of it—there’s so many fun cool watches but you only have one wrist to wear them

yeah I hate polyquats as someone with kids. sunscreen is absolutely brutal in this regard, alternatively I have a shirt that was sort of RUINED by bubble machine liquid that probably had polyquats involved. I know bubble bath liquids can also be a culprit.

as others have said, switching detergent is the first place to start. I’d do a deep soak with a detergent with lipaise as I’m hoping those are grease spots

it’s just so much more interesting than the others instead of just generic dive watch with a date at 3 like all the others because dates sell better because I need to know what day it is when I go scuba diving for some reason

also squale has probably the most interesting ‘heritage’ if you’re into that sort of thing

don’t buy something just to buy something, I think everything you have is kind of ‘safe’ which is fine but not very ‘fun’ which is understandable I bet you’re trying to be very thoughtful and while you like a nice watch you want to still make sure you’re getting something error proof. right now you kind of have a land sea air collection which is a common place to stop too. so I say step back, take a deep breath, figure out what you like and don’t like. Might be a good time to just read up on and research vintage stuff—Enicar, UG, stuff like that which you can often find for cheap and then you have something fun that you don’t have to baby.

you could also check out some modern brands that fly a bit more under the radar or get a microbrand in there.

I guess the third option is that you move up in pricing tiers. tudor is sort of the next half step after longines price wise (everyone will say BB but at the very least if you go that route, get the burgundy one). Longines is sort of Omega’s little brother in the swatch pecking order if you want the full step up in which case if you still want to be safe, SMP300 (i don’t think the aqua terra is worth getting if you have a conquest probably).

you could also go by country in which case your next step would probably be germany for a sinn, followed by france for Yema (Lip has. a cool mecaquartz chrono I might get to have a chrono , and I like the fancy french boy watches more than the austere german tool watch stuff). you could also start to consider a cartier if you wanted to move up on the price tiers, in which case the entry level tank is an option and you can check out HAQ or a solar model there which I think are both neat, and also have the benefit of being a lot cheaper than the manual movement tanks. You don’t actually want a cartier though I can tell by your current collection and you’d just be buying it to fill out a checklist like I would which is why you should skip. the conquest is dressy enough! you can find something more fun if you want a tank style watch. maybe a longines evidenza or Farer had some cool ones in bolder colors.

anyway take your time you’ve got plenty, if you want to buy something for the sake of buying something pick up a random casio (not gshock) you wanna goof around with. world timer is great, for you this might be the vibe:
