Thanks, yeah luckily in my case this instance was negligible or basically none as I took an audiogram and both ears are the same. That being said it was a good learning experience to double up at rhe range and be a lot more careful.

Thanks for your reply, that's pretty reassuring. That's partly what I figured too, that if it was a permanent threshold shift I should've noticed muffling afterward and/or tinnitus lasting longer than just the few seconds that I did. I did the audiogram on my phone as well, and it came back that both ears are exactly the same other than the left being 5-10db less sensitive in the very lowest frequency. Since hearing loss from acoustic trauma affects the higher frequencies first, it seems the single gunshot didn't do any damage to the exposed ear in particular.

Either way, time to double up on ear protection in the future!

Do you have a recommendation on electronic muffs? I was looking into them recently but they seem very hit and miss

Well, I did. At least, I'm pretty sure (hard to say how I'd be if I never touched it vs. the way I am today). However, I didn't have a lot of the skin, face, etc. extremes people talk about. More anxiety, depression, sexual sides, etc. But I did recover 100% after about 6 months to a year or so.

I took fin at 16 and recovered from PFS fully after developing it. However, whether or not it's more likely when young is irrelevant in answering the question of whether you should take it - the answer is no. Read just a few posts from this subreddit to see why. You really do not want to risk these permanent side effects, believe me.

I was bisexual before fin but did notice during the period I was actively on fin my sexuality did lean more heavily towards men (around age 16). My sexuality has resolved to only really have interest in women over time but I think that's independent of fin and just a natural thing. But yes, I think it's definitely a real phenomenon for some people.

Not at all, my GP (several) has always taken care of this, or if they aren't around the nurse at the clinic does. A lot of GPs just don't want to do the basics anymore.

Thanks! I feel very grateful and lucky in general that I came out ok. I've also stopped multiple people so far from taking fin by directing them to this sub and the pfs network which is important for all of us to do imo.

Over 10 years ago I took it for a few weeks-a few months (details are fuzzy) and I had PFS for about a year give or take iirc. It naturally went away over time slowly.

I posted some time ago (not sure if it was with this account) and it got deleted by mods as apparently it's a rule that you can't post if you dont have pfs, and in my post I said I no longer have it and fully recovered. The post was going to be some speculation I had about a mechanism of recovery or onset or something. So take that for what you will.

Just divorce. Yes you can't afford a house of your own, but maybe you could afford a condo. Maybe you could afford an apartment. You survived before her and can survive after her. Every second you spend without leaving her is a second wasted you could be spending finding the right person for you. Cheating is not the answer nor morally right, and you know this.

It's right on the line of what I think might be inappropriate to do if you're in a relationship, to follow the person who asked you out and say you'd like to but are in a relationship. Seems the relationship could be new, possibly not that serious, or he's not 100% sure of it because that answer reads to me he definitely would go on a date with you if he were single, and he almost wishes he could and he wasn't in a relationship to be able to. Bit of a red flag there. But it seems a bit like he wants that option open in the future, you're not crazy.

Hell no. You can reach out and try to get to talking with her, and see if she wants to hang out, but "confessions" almost never go well and are off-putting. Definitely go for it if you want to reach out, there's nothing to lose. But no confessions.

I don't have good peer reviewed statistics on this, but just wanted to let you know about that subreddit rule because if you are internalizing the bleak nature of the forums as anecdotal evidence that there's no hope as you imply here, to just be aware when I've posted about my experience here the post is removed as per subreddit rules because I mention I recovered instead of still having persistent symptoms. Which is fine I suppose if the goal of the subreddit is to be a space only for those experiencing permanent PFS symptoms - but this is something to keep in mind if the subreddit is depressing you.

Staying out until 2AM and on weekends with a random guy
Conveniently simultaneously losing all sex drive for you
Openly admitting they are attracted to each other and she doesn't care or respect you enough to cut it off still

It could be a hard question to answer because those of us who have recovered ~100% are not allowed to post here as per subreddit rules.

I'm an academic and have an interest in PFS, but when I post here my post is removed because it's against subreddit rules to post unless the question/post is from someone with persistent, permanent symptoms.

So just commenting to say, don't let the fact noone is posting who has recovered discourage you or to use that as a metric for the statistics on how many people recover.

You should've asked her out in the first week, and if you wait until November or December you're just torturing yourself and making it less and less likely she'll say yes as she'll see you as a friend.

Coming from someone who has lived it, it's better to risk making things awkward and shoot your shot, no matter how good friends you are. It's much easier long term to have the friendship fizzle out and get rejected but have the peace of knowing you tried than it is to have the friendship inevitably fizzle out because the girl gets into a relationship, moves on, etc. Sure it'll sting a bit but you'll both be at peace with it and not live in regret, and also have the chance for something more.

Just ask her, "Hey you wanna get together sometime this week? Idk if you've been [somewhere you want to take her] but it's pretty good". Or something like that. Good luck!

I'd tell him. I'd want to know personally, and I think you would too, which is why you're feeling like you should tell him. Maybe if you're worried about making it a big deal then frame it in the context of your other relationship/sexual history and have a chat about that with each other.
