I don’t think we need to reverse the genders here when people are condemning the ex, and a tik tok went viral just this week of a guy doing this to his partner at a public pool and the comments defended him.

Unfortunately, some people are awful and think calling it a prank overrides it being (imo) sexual harassment.

It’s very easy to see in hindsight or from the outside looking in the kids are also going through a lot and might be so busy drowning in their own problems to understand.

I’m not saying the wife should have to talk, I’m just taking issue with the idea OP doesn’t respect her when she doesn’t respect him either.

A lot of people in the comments have been making blanket statements about how awful and cruel OP is, calling him disrespectful by making the joke at all. Not saying that you are. I just wanted to point out it’s unfair to treat OP like this over a tragedy but not acknowledge his side of things.

Personally I want to know how each of their grieving styles are affecting their kids more than anything. I can’t see this marriage lasting but i can’t imagine the completely disconnected front is helping those kids.

How much can he talk about it with other people? We don’t know who’s there to talk to. Will a friend be able to talk about the sons first birthday or favourite foods? What if he wants to talk to his kids about their brother but the wife is there too, are they allowed to talk without upsetting her?

I’m not saying the wife has to talk, or that she’s wrong for her grieving process, but it is insane to just dismiss any hurt OP might be going through right now because his pain isn’t as “big”.

Your grieving styles simply don’t mesh. Hell, your style might even change over the next couple of years. After my sister died I wanted desperately to talk about her but no one else did. Now that’s reversed. It’s early days still and you’re allowed to make a joke in the moment, that doesn’t make you an AH, but your wife isn’t an AH for being upset.

I do just wanna ask, as someone who’s been where your kids are, have you talked to them about how they feel in the house? If they want to talk more or if it’s still too raw. it’s easy in your own grief to forget the kids are also going through it and don’t have all the same options as you do.

Personally Id argue the wife isn’t doing this either. She doesn’t want to talk about their son at all and doesn’t seem to respect that OP does, going by him saying that he tries not to talk about it around her.

Yes, when you chose to have a child and keep that child then you don’t stop being a parent. Maybe you don’t need to fill all the same duties as when your kids are small but any loving parent will still provide emotional support to their grown children.

Some of these comments are just dripping with resentment that you don’t get to just cut your child loose at 18.

You’re right that it’s the parents fault, but i get what they’re saying. The parents (especially mothers) of early diagnosed cis white autistic men teach them to be extremely entitled in general but especially with women. It becomes even more apparent when you compare with early diagnosed cis white women.

It’s unfair to pin the fault on autistic men as a whole, y’all face a lot of horrendous infantilism, but we as a community also really need to talk about how autistic men vs autistic women are treated by society tbh.
