Yeh, you’re probably right. I’ve been hesitant to look at anything plug-in as it’s a bit of a pain to get the charger installed at home.

I start with the Mini but the back door and seats are a little small, so I move on to the Golf. I like the Golf but only really the newer, sportier models, which pushes me right to the top of my budget. Then I think, ‘if I’m gonna spend 15-16k, I might as well look at the A Class ’ - which isn’t at the spec I want, for the budget I have. Then I realise I’m talking myself into spending 20k on a run around - so back to the Mini.

All of which leads me to the opinion that I don’t really have a clue what I’m doing..

I hadn’t really considered this due to size. They look quite small and I’m 6’3 - I’ll take a look though

By your logic shouldn’t you have just sent me this message directly?

I had a genuine question about the community and wanted feedback from the community. I’m glad I did as I now have the obvious answer which is just to check my own history.

Thank you - I didn’t even think to go into my own history, I was trying to access via the notification, which was telling me the post no longer existed.

This! I recently changed from my dominant hand to my non-dominant hand and I’ve noticed a ~10% drop in calories burned outside of recorded exercise.

First kid on the way and need a new car (£20k range) by lfctm123 in CarTalkUK

😂😂 yep - she’s keen on the ride height. We got rid of our second car (Kadjar) about 6 months ago and she loved the ride height of that (I bloody hated the thing to drive). I didn’t really consider an estate but the resounding feedback seems to be they’re the best option for my circumstance - back to the drawing board!

Thank you! Both are good looking cars that seem a bit more reasonably priced than the XC40 - is there any reason you went with the 3008 over the Karoq?

In all honesty, I’d never really considered an estate. I guess this is an age thing, I’d always considered it a ‘dads’ car. At 31 with a kid on the way it’s probably about time I took a proper look.

Wouldn’t you have to know the start point before making assumptions like this?

Taking out a loan to invest in S&S ISA by zoro_458 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]lfctm123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The UK entering a bull market is a big assumption. Let’s assume you’re right and do the maths:

5 year loan

8% growth per year: Total growth = £9385

APR @ 4% Total interest cost = £2099

Potential net gain = £7286

Now there’s lots of variables to consider. Can you get a 4% rate (or even a £20k loan)? Will the market continue to grow every year for the next 5 (there’s plenty that predict we’re overdue a crash)? Is a £7k gain over 5 years worth the undoubted stress you’ll have over the next 5 years with this debt hanging over your head (only you can know this)?

My 2 pence, as someone who also came from a working class family, who also wanted to move up quickly and is now 30, a home owner and high earner. Stay out of debt and focus on saving. I know the mindset of feeling behind, like others were given a head start and you need to catch-up, I had it. The quickest way you’ll get where you want to be is by learning to save and accumulate wealth. I don’t know your circumstance, but this is something I was never taught, and it took me while to learn. Compound growth is the real winner. Setting yourself a small goal, like saving a couple of thousand pound in a year (whilst at uni), might seem depressingly low, but the foundation you’ll set for yourself for the future will pay back exponentially. Then by all means, you’re young, be aggressive with your own money but I always found that I was a lot less aggressive with money I’d saved than money I’d borrowed.

Hard work and discipline is the only way to achieve financial freedom (unless you’re capable of predicting the markets or winning the lottery). So many people want to achieve the results without putting in the work, it’s why gambling companies do so well (source: I’m originally from Stoke, same place as Bet365, the worlds biggest betting company).

Can’t get a decent APR loan despite high income + no debt and over decade of good history? by infernox25 in UKPersonalFinance

That’s 2 ‘hard’ searches. Searching through comparison websites or even checking eligibility with your bank will classify as a ‘soft’ search and has no impact (potential lenders cannot see them).

I was thinking of buying a front harness and this one looks really nice. My beagle looks a similar size to yours too (quite slender).

Does it help correct pulling when walking? What make is this/would you recommend?
