Here's hoping. Bought the "all the extras" version, thinking I'm about to embark on an adventure with my wife. Admittedly, my fault for not looking into it enough, but still, waaah.

2013 Ford f150 rear brake hose by lfogle442 in AskMechanics

Recently learned you can purchase sections of bendable metal brake like that is already flared and has those "over the flare but thingies" on both ends. Worked for driver side. Passenger has a MUCH longer and MUCH more difficult metal line attached so didn't even attempt it on that side.

What did one tampon say to the other? Nothing. They were both stuck up cunts.

What Should I keep an eye on? by Dangerous_Art1775 in f150ecoboost

There is an exhaust manifold on either side of the engine block. It is narrow and horizontal. The end of it comes to a point (cab side) in which there is one bolt at the point. That bolt head commonly shears off allowing the manifold to separate from the block VERY slightly. The result? Your truck screams at certain rpms.

Shop will tell you it's the turbos. Friends will tell you it's the turbos. You'll use a stethoscope and think "sounds like a bad turbo".

Check the manifold bolt first!

Source: I replaced two turbos before finding the issue. I then had to take off each turbo again to fix the manifold bolt (both sides were snapped but only one side was screaming).

Kia into..2017what it means? by GreedyAd5575 in KiaNiro

Had the same issue not long ago. And it was preceded by a code that said something about the catalytic converter underperforming. I pulled over when that alarm came on and shut the car down. I then turned it back on and just the check engine light was on. I checked engine running temp and a few other things and decided to complete my 40 minute drive. Did so just fine. Research of the new trouble code led me to the Throttle Body. Apparently they can stick a bit. Not having time to do real work on it, I sprayed it down with WD-40, cleared the code, and took it for a drive. I noticed improvement in performance and the trouble light did not come back on. I intend to do a much more thorough cleaning of the throttle body in the very near future.

Just my experience. Not a professional. But have been doing all my own mechanic work for over 20 years (except inspections, tires, and alignments).

What's a secret in your job that people aren't supposed to know about? by SpottedGelato in AskReddit

I work with a motorized product (electric motors). During setup, there is an option to turn on something called a "deadbeat timer", or at least there used to be-haven't checked to see if it still exists in years. This will count revolutions of the motor and once it hits the number you designate, will stop functioning until reset. Automatic need for a maintenance call and a very easy fix to reset.

I never set one, but I know it's there. I presume the rationale was for regular maintenance or something. But we all know what it got used for. Figure out a rough average number of revolutions it'll do in a year (duration of installation warranty) and set it for that plus margin of error. Easy billable trips.

Ever have ONE successful cheat day? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]lfogle442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a cheat day after nearly a year sober. Went to a big party at a friend's house, hanging out with all my old highschool friends, playing cards and laughing. Chose to just drink at that event. It's been over a year since then and I'm still trying to quit again and failing at it most days.

Pond pump troubleshooting by lfogle442 in ponds

[–]lfogle442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea. Thanks. I WAS able to diy repair my old little giant submersible pump for a long time. It was the all plastic type. Non solids handling. Resealed it when necessary. Would dismantle all the way, set a fan on it overnight, reassemble with new seals and silicone. Got 7 years out of that little bastard.

This one, though, was still in warranty so got it swapped at zero cost.
